Edinburgh crime: Three charged in connection with Robert Burns Drive robbery that left pensioners ‘distressed’

One man and two teenagers have been charged in connection with a robbery that left two Edinburgh pensioners ‘incredibly distressed’.

At around 10pm on Tuesday, August 27, an 88-year-old woman was driving with her 93-year-old female friend when they stopped the car near Mossgiel Walk. A group of masked men are then alleged to have approached the vehicle and demanded the women get out.

The car was later found abandoned in the Harlaw Reservoir car park around 11.10pm.

Two men, aged 19 and 20, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday charged in connection with the incident. A third man, aged 17, is expected to appear at the same court on Thursday, October 10.

Another 19-year-old man was previously arrested and charged in connection with the robbery and was due to appear in court on August 30.

In August, Detective Sergeant Steven Dick said: “This was an incredibly distressing experience for the two elderly women, who thankfully were not hurt, and extensive enquiries are ongoing to identify the individuals involved.”
