An Edinburgh bakery which went viral for its two-hour long queues has won a prestigious global award for its sweet treats.

Lannan, on Hamilton Place in Stockbridge, became a TikTok sensation after opening its doors last summer, with hungry locals lining the street to get inside and the local business selling out of pasties by 11am.

Now, the much-loved bakery has been named as one of the winners of the Pastry Opening of the Year Award at La Liste’s 2024 edition of the World Pastry Awards.

Owner Darcie Maher told our sister paper The Scotsman: “Having been open for less than a year, it’s an honour to receive the award from La Liste for best pastry opening of the year.

“My life long dream has been to own my own bakery and Lannan has surpassed anything I imagined it would be. To have the recognition cements all the relentless hard work that’s gone into every aspect of the bakery up until this point.

The winners of La Liste's Pastry Special Awards 2024 were announced at a glitzy garden party in Paris on Monday (June 17).

Speaking about the awards, Philippe Faure, President of La Liste said: "In just two years, the energy and enthusiasm of the global pastry community has surpassed all expectations. Uniting over 3,000 establishments in the World's Best Pastry Shop Selection, and Special Award winners from 14 countries, is a privilege in the business."

Hélène Pietrini, Managing director of La Liste, added: "Like sport, pastry brings people together, and it is our honor to launch the very first La Liste International Pastry Forum on the eve of the Paris Olympics."

As well as the main categories, 3,000 global pastry shops that were recommended by La Liste as the world’s best - including several bakeries from Edinburgh and the Lothians being commended.

Twelve Triangles, Hobz Bakery, The Pastry Section, The Palmerston and La Barantine all made it onto the prestigious list.
