Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale boss Raymond Carr says his team will not give up their league crown without a fight.

The reigning champions are a whopping 25 points adrift of current leaders Leith Athletic, whom they meet tonight at Saughton in the semi-final of the League Cup (kick-off 7.30pm). However, they do have seven games in hand over their opponents.

Carr’s men suffered a 4-0 defeat to Spartans at the weekend, while Leith registered a hard-fought 2-1 win at Peebles Rovers.

“We’re not going to give up, but it’s a massive ask now. We’re going out there to win the rest of them but I think the run we had in the Scottish Cup and the weather has gone against us,” Carr said.

“The weekend was a bit of a disaster for us. We spoke to the players on Monday night and they know that even with the personnel we were missing that they should have done a lot better. We just didn’t perform on the day and before we knew it we were chasing the game. I don’t think we deserved anything other than what we got.

“I’m expecting a real tough game against Leith tonight but we’ll give it our best.”
