Eilidh Davies insists that Hearts’ attack is their “strongest point” after she netted her first goal of the season on Sunday.

The 19-year-old came off the bench on the weekend to help the hosts see out a 5-1 victory against Motherwell. It was another impressive performance in front of goal for the Jam Tarts who have now netted 18 times in their last four league games. Such displays early in the season now mean they are only 12 goals away from their tally in their last SWPL1 campaign in what has been an impressive year so far.

“Attack is our strong point,” Davies told the Edinburgh Evening News. “We have great relationships within the team, on and off the pitch. We work so well together and a lot of the goals we score are team goals. We have got great individuals, but a lot of our goals come from good play.

“It is just making us more and more confident. We do have a real threat up top, so it is great we are seeing real success from that. We will only keep scoring goals.”

Davies was amongst the goals herself on the weekend despite being on the pitch for only 12 minutes. With her first touch on the field, the midfielder managed to blast the ball past the opposing ‘keeper to get the host’s fifth.

“I was a bit nervous because Katie [Lockwood] was on a hat-trick and she squared it to me and I wasn’t expecting her to,” she added. “It caught me by surprise to be honest, so I just hit it as hard as I could with my left foot and I was chuffed it went in.

“It’s a credit to Motherwell as they are always a very hard team to play. They always make it very physical, always use their strengths and have a real threat up top. Our defence did really well today, we are annoyed about the one goal but even still holding them to one is alright for us. We did well today.”

With the international break now underway, Hearts won’t play again until November 5th when they host SWPL1 champions Glasgow City. The Jam Tarts will be hopeful that the momentum they have gained will continue after their two-week break as they look to get their first victory against the side.
