This artist’s impression provides a tantalising glimpse into the future of Edinburgh Waverley, as the Scottish Government prepares to unveil full details of Network Rail’s proposals later today.

Transport Secretary Michael Matheson is expected to reveal the latest in plans to redevelop the historic station, which is predicted to double its annual footfall over the next 25 years.

Dubbed “the Waverley Masterplan”, funds for the overhaul will be phased over the next three decades and jointly managed by Network Rail, the council and Edinburgh-based consultants.
