crime writer Ian Rankin is planning to launch his own music festival in Edinburgh next year, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his Rebus literary collection.

The author, who mentions a range of his favourite tracks in his novels, will be publishing his 21st full-length Rebus novel later this year.

Mogwai and Belle and Sebastian are just two of Scotland’s top bands earmarked to appear at his city festival, but the line-up is yet to be settled.

Mr Rankin said: “Rebus’s 30th anniversary is basically happening the whole of next year.

“We are hoping to put on a few music shows - a music festival in Edinburgh with bands or musicians that are discussed, or have been important to, the Rebus series.”
