ST Patrick's Church in Edinburgh will hold a Vigil for Zimbabwe next Friday.
Members will offer a quiet prayer for the people of Zimbabwe on the day they go to the polls in the controversial national election.

Father Ed Hone said: "Friday is election day and we are praying for peace, for justice, and in solidarity with those in the country and those throughout the world with relatives still there."

The vigil takes place between 8.30am and 4pm.

Well, we can all go home and rest in peace now that a church vigil has been declared.

What insipid words and a mealy-mouthed stance!

For f*ck's sake, for once call it like it is: Mugabe is a racist, murdering bast*rd who mocks western leaders everyday.

No wonder the "Church" is seen as an anchronism and totally out of touch with reality.

Ever been to Zimbabwe, Indune1? I have, repeatedly. The priests in here in St Patrick's, Edinburgh, belong to a Religious Order. 35 of our brothers are in Zimbabwe, working amongst the poorest of the poor. The parish here (along with others) supports them financially, by visiting to show solidarity (2 parishioners have visited this year) And by our prayer Vigil on 27th June. We know from direct experience how much it means to the people in Zimbabwe to know that people outside the country are aware of the horrors of the situation there, are praying for them, and doing whatever practically they can do. Nothing mealy-mouthed about all that. Nothing out of touch with reality, nothing anachronistic.

Then why didn't you say that?

My press release did — they only printed part. There's also so much we can't speak about in case we endanger those out there.

Fair enough. The Pope should excommunicate Mugabe - at least he couldn't blame that the Brits.
