YUKOS, the Russian oil giant, has failed in its latest attempt to shelve a £31.8 million tax bill, which it believes would push it into bankruptcy.
A court in Moscow said that until an appeal hearing was heard on September 6, Yukos would have to comply with the terms of an earlier order and pay the money. That means that the group’s assets will be vulnerable to seizure by court bailiffs.

The September hearing will be Yukos’ second appeal against the £31.8m order.
