Canada: Prime minister Stephen Harper will dissolve parliament tomorrow and call early elections, with the economy and a proposed opposition tax on energy sources expected to be the main issues.
Palestine: President Mahmoud Abbas said he would try to reach a peace agreement with Israel by the end of the year. But he told business leaders in Cernobbio, Italy, that he and Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert would not first outline areas in which they agreed:

"It is all or nothing, really," he said.
