Greece: Gunmen attacked a riot police unit in Athens today, seriously wounding a policeman in an escalation of violence after the fatal police shooting of a teenager last month sparked Greece's worst riots in decades.

China: At least 13 people were killed when a bus in which they were travelling plunged into a valley in south-west mountainous Guizhou province.
