A CAMERA crew filming Britain's Got Talent singing sensation Susan Boyle in her hometown of Blackburn were ordered to shoot in nearby Bathgate instead after judge Piers Morgan branded West Lothian town "a dump".
The manager of Susan's local pub where she had a regular live spot told how camera crews were supposed to visit the small village and film in various locations including the community centre.

But when they arrived, the run-down council estate whe
re Susan grew up appalled Piers Morgan.

Whilst crew members diplomatically described the views as being "too bland", Morgan lashed that "it's a dump" and insisted they moved to the nearby town of Bathgate.

And although Jackie Russell, manager of the Happy Valley Hotel, laughed it off at the time, she is worried that the village will now miss out on its five minutes of fame in tonight's programme.

She said: "They were supposed to come here and film for the show, but Piers said the place was a "dump" so they went up the road and filmed in Bathgate.

"I hope they don't say on the show she's from Bathgate, because she's not.

"She's ours – Blackburn born and bred.

"The whole family were Blackburn born and bred, her mother, her father, everyone.

"It might not be the bonniest, but it is where she's from."

Jackie also revealed that Susan, 48, a devout Catholic who has never even kissed a man, had developed a huge crush for the judge.

She said: "She's always talking about how well her and Piers get on. It's Piers this, Piers that.

"She absolutely loves him."

The singing sensation was described by regulars in the pub as a "modest woman" with the "voice of an angel".

Jackie said: "Susie is well known in the village and everyone's behind her. There's no doubt about that."

Blackburn is often thought of as a part of Bathgate, but the 5,000 residents are adamant they are a separate village with their own identity.

An ex-mining town, it was given a boost in the 1960's when people moved there to escape over-crowded Glasgow.

But the small population are still close, despite the growing number of new housing estates cropping up on the outskirts.

The village and the others around it seem to merge seamlessly into Bathgate, a booming commuted town with over 16,000 residents.

The residents should be happy, to call it a dump is a compliment, it is certainly not a dump, it is a great deal worse.

People shouldn't be so judgemental. Many of these towns have been allowed to fall apart through no fault of their own. Just thank your lucky stars you weren't born there! Had to laugh at 'but the small population are still close' quote. Of course they are, they're all practically related to one another!

I've never had the misfortune to have to visit Blackburn, but it must be pretty brutal if Bathgate is considered better in comparison.

#4 just-whatever-eh: A commuted town has been spared the death penalty but is sentenced to live within forelock tugging distance that bastion of all that is good, clean, healthy and wholesome, Edinburgh.
That is not to confuse same with the other, notorious Edinburgh with it's colourful junkies and alcoholic vagrants who maintain the gently bubbling streams of urine diluted vomit which meander through this "world class" town to pool in the cavernous pits dug by chancers installing a pretendy tram line. That town with it's gaunt zombies wandering hither and yon in their fetching, kebeb stained sportswear looking for unwary tourists to assault.
Positively NOT that Edinburgh.

Away and give yourselves peace the lot of you.

#16 Awesome post! And I live in Edinburgh but would call Bathgate my spiritual home. Is the Golden Chip still there, near the steelyard? It was The Commercial for a few pints, then off to Manhattans for a boogie and a snog with some slapper. Happy days...

Piers is lucky he didnt have to go to Blackridge or Breich. Its a sad indicment on west lothian when Bathgate is seen as culturally acceptable :-)

Well I like everyone else was skeptical when Susan came out on stage. When she opened the first notes of her song every hair on the back of my neck and arms stood up.
Susan you are truly a remarkable woman- I hope for and wish you every success in the future. Our phones rang hot about you and we have watched you over and over.

It is unfortunate that Piers Morgan found Susan's hometown something to be ashamed of. I visted some of the small towns in Scotland (just outside Glasgow)including some council housing areas which were kept beautifully on the inside. Many of the houses had lovely gardens as well, and were called "hame" by many lovely people just like Susan. I hope that as she grows stronger in sharing her beautiful talent, she will also grow stronger in standing up to those who would ask her to deny her hometown--dump or no! Susan you have a lovely voice; a lovely homeland; and I hope you will proudly uphold your hometown and all the people who knew your talent would "knock their socks off!" I hope you will listen to Sydney Devine's rendition of "Chrystal Chandeliers;" it has a very timely message about what is real. Bless you, Susan, I hope you go far in sharing your gift with the entire world!

Regardless of whence she came, Susan Boyle is my new favorite female vocalist of all time! I hope she has an all-time best selling album and more than one world tour.

Blackburn may be a "dump," I don't know; but unless I'm mistaken, Nazareth was considered a "dump", too, considering Nathanael's question, "Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?"; yet something good did come from there. Likewise Blackburn near Bathgate, West Lothian.

But what do I know? I'm just a half-breed Cherokee! I guess you'd call me a "knuckle-dragger", too. Aye?

I don't know how Scots feel about people with Scot ancestry claiming it, so I won't mention that....

33

Don't run greetin to me when you break a leg!,

No wonder Susan has never been kissed. Have you seen the men in Blackburn. You wouldn't, really you wouldn't. Everyone is their own uncle. Soap dodging inbreds. Clearly Susan has a lot of self respect.
Good luck Susan.
Get a contract and get out of Blackburn.
Save yourself before its too late.

There are lots of positive things about Blackburn.
1.There are no residents named Piers for a kick off.
2.It's a long way from where this talentless individual P.Morgan lives so you are unlikely to come across him up in the shopping centre or in the Happy valley hotel.
3. The burdz are all gorgeous.

Surely it's no coincidence that Blackburn is twinned with Grozny, Kabul & Baghdad.

You know the tune :-

"Your sister is your mother,
Your father is your brother,
You all sh*g one another,
The Blackburn famileeeeeeee.."
