California hit by snowstorm
THOUSANDS of Americans have barricaded their homes against a powerful storm which has seen flights grounded, roads closed and power cut.
Howling winds, pelting rain and heavy snow is pummelling California, with gusts reaching 80mph and trees crashing on to homes, cars and roads. Forecasters expect the storm to dump as much as 10ft of snow in the Sierra Nevada by tomorrow.
