MARK McGHEE has told Hearts he will not be pursuing their managerial vacancy after backing out of a planned eight-day trip to Lithuania yesterday.
The Tynecastle club confirmed there will be no further discussions about luring McGhee to Tynecastle.

The Evening News can reveal he spoke with Mindaugas Nikolicius, a financial expert from Vladimir Romanov's Ukio Bankas Investment Group, today to convey the message that he would remain as manager of Motherwell.

"Hearts today confirmed that Mark McGhee will not be interviewed for the vacant managerial position at Tynecastle," said a statement on the club website.

"The club continues its search for a new manager who can meet the aims of the board in delivering on-field success for Hearts."

Hearts were refusing to give up on their pursuit of McGhee this morning as he has yet to sign a new deal at Fir Park.

However, following a telephone call between Nikolicius and McGhee, who is at home in Brighton, Romanov has reluctantly accepted that he must now look elsewhere for the man who will transform Hearts.

McGhee failed to board his flight to Lithuania yesterday afternoon, where he was scheduled to spend an astonishing eight days negotiating terms with Romanov for the Hearts vacancy.

As he waited at London's Stansted airport for a flight to Vilnius, a persuasive phone call from Motherwell chairman John Boyle convinced him to rethink his intentions.

Although the Fir Park club posted a statement on their website last night claiming negotiations had been "successfully concluded" to keep their manager, Hearts believed they had a chance of persuading him to swap Lanarkshire for Edinburgh.

McGhee and his assistant, Scott Leitch, have been offered a salary increase by Motherwell but nothing in the region of the £375,000 a year Romanov had dangled in front of McGhee.

Leitch was due to fly out to Lithuania today to engage in further talks with Romanov alongside McGhee, however that plan has also been aborted.

Nikolicius wanted to give McGhee every opportunity to rekindle negotiations today and but the former Leicester City, Wolves, Millwall and Brighton manager has declined the chance to replace Hearts' outgoing caretaker Stephen Frail.

McGhee had previously met Romanov face to face for initial discussions but the Russian businessman will now focus on alternative names on his managerial shortlist.

I am utterly ashamed at the mess Hearts are in.

Before people start berating me I would ask you to hear me out. Whether you believe McGhee is the right man for the job or not the fact remains that he was the club's first choice.
Hearts aproached MOTHERWELL to take their manager with an offer of more than three times his salary and the chance to come to a club with the third biggest fan base in Scotland and the fact he even had to think about it tells it's own story for me never mind the fact that he turned it down.

You have to be honest here guys it was not because Motherwell will play two games in the UEFA cup next season that he didn't sign was it?

Levein left us part way through a UEFA Cup campaign to move to the Championship.

I think that the statement about hearts being a bigger job and not a better job tells you everything you need to know about what caused this deal to fall through

Oh dear he's obviously waiting on the hobbits job around January next year in the vain hope of the Celtic job coming up the year after, he may regret this descision as Motherwell could easily be in the relegation mire next season and we'll see what kind of loyalty they then display to him. Vlad bite the bullet and go and get Craig Levein now!!

To be so public about their interest when it now appears to be quite obvious that a McGhee deal wasn't 'Done and Dusted' (like many jambos have claimed for months), just shows the arrogance of the people that run Hearts. Who do they go for now. The next 'candidate' will now knowhe's second choice and that he will have to place a clause in his contract to do his job.... namely pick the team.
22

Chas Niceass,

27/05/2008 12:35:24
You know, this is no bad thing. Quite the opposite of what many think, this is the dawn of realisation for Hearts hierarchy.

Managers are not ten-a-penny, not of the value of a Burley or a McGhee anyhow. They cant be dispensed with at a whim.

Whoever may get the job next, assuming he has credence, can probably thank Mark McGhee for ensuring they will get a fair crack.

I dont think Romanov can gamble on an Eastern European any longer, it doesnt work and he will lose, football matches and money.

As for McGhee, you cant knock his decision but ultimately whatever Boyle has said to him I would imagine was tantermount to emotional blackmail and will more than likely end in tears in the not too distant future.

Only a smidgeon of disappointment, candidates aren't leaping to mind but personally I'd like to see Aidy Bothroyd in the frame.

McGee has had the reassurances that he will be given the money & the clause in his contract that he can pick the team... The Wookie

This is all now down to Hearts compensation package - Hearts offered £75,000 - Mothwerwell want £200,000...

Hearts will get him for £125,000/150,000

Dinnae panic - Vlad is willing to go to £250,000 The Wookie

Will at least have the cohonies to come back on and admit they were wrong and apologise. However my opinion on this is they will shirk away and change usernames, so be prepared for lots of new names appearing shortly, Some have already started to appear.

Thats not how business is done in Easter Europe though lad...

Any prospective "employee" must bow before the great man who is willing to give him a job in the first place.

Us in the West are all nuts about how we run business dont you know if Vlad is to be believed.... Unions? Benifits? Do your job without "state" intervention? Absurd, ludicrous, corrupt even...... We need not listen to those with expertise as a Tsar such as myself knows all... & when it goes wrong I'll blame everyone bar myself and go and hide in my submarine before entering a dancing competition...

Hence McGhee's snagglepuss impersionation by "exit, stage left....."

#30 Probably right!

Such vitriol from the Hibs lot today. Deary me, its only someone nae wanting to shift job because there is a very obvious emotional attachment.

Calm down lads, they hadn't even got close to deciding whether it would be a Canon or whether they would purchase 2 new blackberries (far more modern you know!)

Who knows who will be next, I heard a whisper from a poster a long time back that our man might be in Salonika, what price that now?

Bothroyd in! Mourihno has been waiting about for a while as well, I'm sure he's waiting for the phone call (or the fax)

If Vlad is going to continue to pick the team does it really matter whether or not the manager is a Lith ??

You say that foreign managers have not worked but did they have any more say over the team than Rix or Frail. Where the manager is from isnt really the problem.

Besides, we have a big Finn, and the previous bloke ( who's name escapes me ) must have been foreign as well, judging by the suntan.

I think Boyle will have told MM carry on with the good job you're doing now and an improved job offer will come eventually (eg Celtic). There's more to some jobs than just money and over this last year MM has built a relationship with Motherwell in a similar way Levein has built one with Dundee United. Both of these 2 would be good for Hearts but it's not the end of the world if we don't get them - in our current state a lot of managers out there will be an improvement for Hearts.

And to all the Hearts muppets that gloated about him signing I hope you're happy to put up with the Hibs muppets gloating now. There's too many wee daft kids that ruin this board from both teams.

Romanov will have to tread very carefully with his next moved now. There has been an uneasy tolerance of the performances towards the end of the season as Hearts fans have been given the impression Mr Romanov has seen the error of his ways and was ready to go down a different path and improvements (starting with a decent manager with full control)would be made.

If Hearts end up with yet another yes man and promises are again broken it will be the straw that breaks the camels back for most fans.

What is funny here from the hibees point of view is not the fact you lost out on Mcghee (because we never thought he would go), but idiots such as 'Wookie' and others who said it was a done deal, McGhee on his way, mccormack to come with him, 15 million war chest, I have that from a 'credible' source. But if you think about it, why was he about to fly to Lithuania. Because he wanted the job or to talk about it. He's not getting more money from Well than Hearts offered, now I know they had a good year but generally Hearts do do better than Motherwell.
There is only one thing that sticks in my mind and bearing in mind how poignant Sunday afternoon must have been at Parkhead, there is little doubt in my mind, the emotion spent at that club is the tieing factor to Fir Park for Mark McGhee.

#24 I think you'll find the only thing the club went public with was that they had approched Motherwell and today to say he wouldn't be interviewed. What's so arrogant about that?! Not once did you hear anything from within Tynecastle saying it's a done deal - it's nearly signed etc. It was all said by pi*s poor journalists who thought they'd jump the gun to write an exclusive and who now look stupid.
And for all those who think it was just publicity to get more people to buy season tickets - get a grip. I doubt many people went and bought season tickets on the back of that and if it was publicity - why was McGhee on a plane to Lithuania?!
We'll get a manager one way or another and will be above Hibs next season. Whether that's in the top or bottom 6 i don't know but Mixu is a ball bag of a manager and is taking Hibs down with him.

Don't renew/buy season tickets, don't pay to attend matches, don't spend money in the club shop, don't buy any refreshments at the match, don't purchase corporate hospitality from the club, don't book Tynecastle for any functions.

Only way to hurt somebody like Romanov is to hit him in the pocket.

As a Dons fan i think McGhee has just made the biggest mistake of his career not taking the Hearts job. Lets face it, in the SPL we have had the worst season for a long time and only because of some dodgy refereeing did we end up 4th instead of 3rd. Motherwell bottled it near the end of the season and were very lucky to land 3rd. Im sure every other top flight team outside of the OF would agree that they were pretty poor this season. Next season everyone will up their game and motherwell will be fighting for relegation. After Accies performance at Pittodrie theres no way they are going down next season.

I think Mark should have phoned Neil Cooper (ex AFC legend) what its like to be a manager with no money and staying at home with your mum. When Mark is jobless he'll wish he took the £425k on offer.

Good luck Motherwell next season , you will need it.

#9 Jamboy you go on about the third bigget fan base in Scotland. You probably have th third biggest fan base in Edinburgh behind the bay city rollers and Rod Stewart.

Aberdeen clearly have a bigger fan base that Hearts. They may not have a full house at every home game but how often do hearts sell out their entire allocation at every away match?

and yes i admit that Hibs are probably the fifth largest fan base in Edinburgh behind Chesney Hawkes!!

He wasnt our 1st choice but is a good manager and thats why we held out. it hasnt happend and thats that so we will move on and keep looking.

thats football.

we will have a guy in place for next season and i for one dont care where he comes from as long as he can get the players playing then thats all that really matters.

John Collins was the manager and he left as he felt that he had taken the club as far as he could.

Which meant that he wanted the Fulham job. That is why he is ridiculed. He played decent football but lacked the guile and egde or Mr Mowbray.

"McGhee turns down Hearts manager job to stay at Motherwell"

So judging by the headline he was offered the job..Nope i dont think so.He was offered an interview and didnt want it.

I questioned the ambition of MM yesterday on these boards and am pleasantly suprised that he has chosen not to enter the race for the job.
Good..Now onto the next bod.

It has been very quiet the last few days without the usual Hobo experts chuntering on about all things Hearts.
Glad to have you back for a wee while anyway.

#84 So what you are really saying is that Aberdeen "Clearly" have a bigger away fan base than Hearts. The hardcore fans if you like. Obviously in your eyes selling out your home games is less of an indication of your fan base than selling out your away games!!! Hmmm ... interesting way of looking at things!

Ok I know I'll get grief for posting this but who is in the frame now, realistically?

Billy Davies

Craig Levein (Prob won't come)

Jimbo Jeffries (Wouldn't take him)

Aidy Boothroyd (Not sure if he would leave championship)

Graeme Sounness (always touted for it)

And here's some outragous suggestions but you never know:

Nevio Scala (although he's not British he's been touted before)

George Graham (been out of football for a while)

Steve Clark (No 2 at Chelsea for years wants a shot on his own)

Alan Irvine (Preston Manager may look to SPL as a step up?)

David O Leary (He aint worked in a while)

Peter Reid (Former Sunderland gaffer)

Steve Mclaren (Low profile job to come back into)

Sam Allardyce (Again may relish the opportunity)

Martin Jol (has anyone offered him a job lately?)

Brian Laudrup (his brothers a decent gaffer)

Brian McLair (respected Man Utd coach)

Alan Shearer (beggining to run out of ideas)

Paul Lambert (Wouldn't take him)

Geovanni Trapatonni (Pull out the big guns)

Joe Jordan (Portsmouth coach and former Jambo)

I'll await for the usual..."No-one in their right mind would come to Hearts" and "There's more chance of Duncan Shearer being the new Hearts manager", "Keep on living in dreamland" etc etc.

But hey, all I'm doing is throwing some names out there, even though most would probably never come.

Anyone else got any suggestions I can pass on to Vlad, apart from the old Pinochio ones...

Ach. We have to hope there's a second choice here, they've had 5 months to come up with a list after all! As far as I'm concerned, all that's happened is we've asked for an interview with our first choice, and he's said no. Not the end of the world by a long shot. Time to judge is when we see the next steps, I just hope it's not a repeat of what happened to Newcastle - a short list of 1, offer turned down, and the panic appointment of whoevers easiest. Except in our case "whoevers easiest" would be some random Eastern European.
I'm not judging this mob on what they say they'll do with regard to a propoer manager, only what they do do. They've not done anything yet. Jury still out.

Motherwell ran all over most teams in the division this year (excepy maybe the OF). Yes they stuttered a bit towards the end but ended up 7 points clear of your garbage lot. I hope you enjoy watching Ritchie Foran tearing up the wings next season, well tearing up pubs anyway. What a joke team Aberdeen are.

Not going to cry over spilt milk as (even though i will take pelters from non jambo's) we are the only team in the SPL able to put up a decent fight to the OF (this season was a blimp) so lets get a manager in and get ready for the new season.
109

Johhny Jambo,

27/05/2008 13:58:59
My sources (who have never been right yet) tell me Jimmy "Jaffa" Calderwood is next in line. His eye for a player (Duff, Consideine, Bus, Mackie and the evr improving Richardinho Foster) has proven attractive to Romanov. Also as a mini bear he will fit right in and no need to worry about not trying against Rangers.

Johnny Jambo,

#115 - Yes Graham I am not holding mine either, I think too many of Vlads decisions aremade on the hoof. Maybe he saw the press reporting over the last few weeks and said "Oh aye Hertz fans want McGhee I will just haud a wee chat wi him an see what he says" with nothing as back up.

I fear we will end up with another puppet, probably Eastern European.

Iain Bhern,

#122. It has to be said that Vlad hasn't been in Scotland too often in the last twelve months so it's reasonably fair to assume that any converstaions were held on the phone. Not best practice in my opinion. If someone were offering me a job I'd want to meet them face to face soonest, otherwise I'd get the feeling they weren't really all that keen!

It seems that there are a number of people on this thread who have not taken the time to read what McGhee actually said when giving his reasons for staying with Motherwell. Here is the link just to remind you:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/motherwell/7420398.stm

I don't see anything here where McGhee says "I couldn't work with that James Bond baddie" or "that Burley guy says not to bother".

For all you hobos in particular who are now telling us that McGhee is too sensible to take the Hearts job, is McGhee also correct when he says that he believes Hearts will be succesful again? Or is he only clever when his decisions cause you to breathe a sigh of relief?

£350k+ is a lot of money and now that this figure is out in the open, there will be takers. The question is, will Romanov now be chucking his toys out of the pram and revert to putting in one of his submariner colleagues?

Of course, they've reverted to type by angrily hitting out at the Hibs fans who are quite rightly noising them up.

Kickback is now deluged with posters giving it large with "That's a lucky escape, we've got away with this one, I didn't want him anyway, he'd jump at the first chance of more money etc etc"

Contrast that to a few days ago when us green mutants were "keeking ourselves" over his impending appointment.

Every national boss knows the nucleus of players who he will play in his first 11 if they are injury free.

Why not use these international friendlies to blood in players who are on the fringes of holding down a starting job in the national side.

I would also like to see Scotland arranging games to suit our own national team interests and not that of countries using us as practice for their own training sessions as a build up to EURO 2008.

I believe the tabloids identified McGhee as a potential successor and he quickly refuted it. He was NOT approached by Hibs at the time however.

He was interviewed after McLeish left but Mowbray was offered the job, leaving McGhee rather miffed by it all.

For what it's worth, I think Hearts have got off lightly by missing out on McGhee. One semi decent season doesn't make him a good manager. As a keen follower of English football, I noticed all too often his failings as a manager.

The only humour or "relief" I have, is that it will hopefully put a stop to all the Hearts fans salivating profusely over his rumoured appointment. Can't promise it won't stop me laughing my head off about it though.

#226 Should that not be Predictable_Hibee - papering over the problems with your own team by focusing on Hearts. Why wouldn't Hearts fans salivate over a manager, seeing as we haven't had one for two and a half season? Only natural, no? Interesting how only Hibs fans are allowed to gloat and make extravagant claims in your world, or have you forgotten how unbearable they were when going to the top of the league for a couple of days last season?

Hearts were obviously led down the garden path by McGhee here. They did things right by agreeing to his request for an official approach to be made at the end of the season. The papers all reported it as a done deal. In his own newspaper column and in the article above HE thought it would be a done deal. He changed his mind at the very last minute and we'll find out in next season how committed he is to Motherwell. Only Hibees could spin this as being Hearts fault.

To me it's encouraging that we went for him. Lets hope we go for Jeffries now - my first choice as a much more stable choice to prove Romanov can keep his hands off the team.

A couple of points
(1) I can't accept that the salary for the Managers job would be released prior to any meeting or agreement.

(2) If the reported figure of 350k is correct there is no way that M.McGhee could afford to turn it down.

My conclusion is that the salary quoted is fictional and that Romanov did not agree to McGhees non financial demands and this is the reason for no deal.

A further point on the posters claiming inside knowledge.
Strange that they were able to tell us all about Mcghee and done deals ETC but were unable to warn us about Burleys sacking or the arrival of an unknown like G.Rix or the departure of Pressley and Hartley. Bit sad that one of the in the know brigade, JT&T got a bit huffed that another was getting a bit credit for telling us the McGhee deal was done and dusted and notified us that he had already passed this info by E Mail on to Victor . In other words his duff info was reported earlier than other duff info. Dear o dear.
I think as Hearts supporters we get enough nonsense from Tynie without adding to it.

Daillyman - in my references to the USSR I was talking about Romanov's nationality, nothing to do with which country footballers played for. These USSR countries, called republics, were all individual countries under Soviet rule.

With regards to the Scotland friendly matches, I have no problem with fringe players getting a game, but buy playing mostly fringe players no manager will get any real benefit because you need a good mix of experience and "fringe" and when the OF players decide they dont want to play this does not support the Manager nor the country.

So what now for Hearts??

This is a disappointment without doubt due to the publicity the matter has attracted. But is it really a loss. McGhee has done a good job at Well but I am inclined to think that the challenge for 3rd place was not overly strong, as evidenced with Aberdeen eventually finishing 4th.

I personally don't believe McGhee would have shown any loyalty towards Hearts as he has shown himself to be mercenary on more than one ocassion during his managerial career down south. Let's not forget this was a man interviewed for the Bohemians job in Ireland 18 months ago.

What's the betting he is at Celtic Park before the start of the season.

I was advised by a source close to Tynecastle of many years that Jim Jefferies was offered the role in February. Gary Locke was to form part of the coaching staff. However Hearts are not prepared to entertain Billy Brown who has been a public critic of the Romanov regime and as such the deal stalled. Make no mistake Jefferies would take the job in a second if offered it along with BB.

Fear now will be that Romanov takes the huff over the way Mcghee has publicly rebuffed his advances and he will turn attention to eastern europe for a manager. That's probably where the smart money would go on new manager......

#242 That sum was about what Rix was on apparently. My personal view is McGhee has his eye on the Scotland or Celtic job, whichever comes first. And as Scotland managers tend to jump ship at the slightest fluttering of eyelashes from some club or other, and Strachan IMO is only their for one more season at the most to have another go at the CL, he may only have to wait a season.

It's only natural that McGhee should have to meet Romanov, and he didn't, so the point about terms being met or not met can't really apply. But, yes, I think Romanov is reaping what he's sown here through his previous dealings with Hearts many managers. It's still encouraging we went for him though and all the noise coming from Hearts about looking for a manager were true, and not some big con to sell season tickets as some would have us believe.

Laughable the comments about rangers fans smashing up Manchester - listen to the voice of the jambos Ewan Cameron on the subject and learn (he might know less than Sarah O on the actual game but he does relaise that the Gers support on the whole was awesome).

Unfortunately some neds do attach themselves to big clubs at big matches, something Hearts need never fear as they never have reached a European final and despite Vlad's haiverings never will.

For the record.

Rangers - 4 European finals.

#255 You had me until the Gary Locke bit. Good one!

Jeffries would take the job, and hopefully he will. I read one paper saying Hearts considered Jeffries' record not to be good enough compared to McGhee's. I looked them up and JJ has a great record at all his clubs, including Killie for a number of years. He's just stayed their a little long and has done all he can.

McGhee's record is very patchy, although the job he did at Well was very good. He has no proven record of bringing through youngsters like JJ and no major honours.

I'd have liked MM at Hearts even for a year, but we would have had to put up with constant speculation if he did well. This situation reminds me of Scolari ditching England at the last minute because he didn't want the hassle (from the media). McGhee could have thought he'll stay secure while his stock is high. It's a risky tactic though becaue if he finishes fifth with Well, Celtic are hardly likely to come in for him. At least at Hearts, if he did badly everyone knows it's a hugely challenging job.

I would take Jeffries before Levein and McGhee.

This could take a proper Hearts man to fix but alas I doubt if Vlad would trust him.

I refused to get too excited about this from the start but i am astonished that more people aren't concerned that a manager would opt for half the wages at a club with less than half the support before us... That is pretty worrying and desn't fill me with confidence about the goings on behind the scenes really.

"he might know less than Sarah O on the actual game"

To explain - and I realise you aren't the brightest - that means he's an utter joke on the subject. Sarah O displaying zero knowledge of the game during her stint on Scotsport (I did find her pretty sexy in her wee denim mini though I have to confess).

I don't usually listen to Real Radio but wanted to hear what the buffoon who claims to be a jambo thought of events in Manchester.

To be fair he actually spoke some sense about events OFF the field.

Do you understand now?

If you can't understand something like that then why should anybody take you seriously?

In fact why not write to the SPL etc and tell them of your thoughts on Rangers/ journalists etc. They'll have a good laugh I'm sure.

Anyway I'm taking a well earned break from matters of the Hearts although I will be supporting every club who play them next season bar Celtic.

I'll speak to you again when whatever muppet is brought in to nominally take charge of your club.

BTW Keep suporting paranoid Vlad and you really will be the 3rd force--- in the East of Scotland Mickey Mouse League.

If Vlad was serious then surely he should be over here overseeing the whole thing or he should be letting someone else handle it.

I'd advise you to try the Intertoto but even that would be futile. How does it feel supporting a team whose only chance of silverware if the so called FESTIVAL CUP?

To Jambo Through and Through (and your many aliases), I'll have to take your word on EC being a retard, after all you've demonstrated your expertise on that very subject with every one of your posts.

i am sick of repeating myself BUT although McGhee seems a pretty decent manager (for the SPL) there is only one club he would ever be loyal to and thats cellic. so i for one am not that botherd about yesterdays events as i strongly believe that as soon as strachan gets the bullet or leaves mcghee will be round at darkheid with cap in hand.

#353 I'm inclined to believe the statements McGhee has made, that he feels in the past he's jumped ship to bigger clubs a bit too readily and has suffered for it - so doesn't want to do it again.
For what it's worth, I can see his point, there are a lot of folk round here saying he never sticks at a job very long, and would be off at the first opportunity to go to a bigger club than Hearts. Perhaps by staying at Motherwell for more than a year he's proving that he can be loyal to a club.

Fair play to McGhee he got out before it became obvious that the job would be to much for him.
All the reasonably big jobs he has had,he has bottled. He was happy at Brighton in front of 6000 and happy at Motherwell with the same sort of backing.By his own admission Hearts is a much bigger job and with big jobs comes hard graft & pressure.McGhee likes neither.

Not impressed by Vlads choice of target here either, contrary to most Jambo belief MM is not Jambo material.

I do also suspect that no other targets have been lined up & again goes to show the ineptidude that Vlad pocesses when it comes to running a football club.

We had the Newcastle scenario recently where the 1st choice was Harry Redknap,he got halfway up the M1 and went home again and stayed at Pompey while the toon ended up with KK,the fans favourite. It was done and dusted pretty sharpish if memory serves as well.

Do we still have any "favourites" left capable of doing the job ????

nice to see all the hibby's coming out of the wood work as soon as they hear that mcgee wont be coming to hearts, when the report was that it was a done deal you could hear the tumble weed flying around sunny leith.

have faith hearts will get a manager in time for pre season, there is a plan B and you will hear about it very very soon. and weather it is ferguson or micky mouse we will still put one over on the hibbys next season and every season after ( like normal!!)

Fair enough, I hadn't read any quotes elsewhere as yet but have now taken the time to do so. The one that sticks out is:

"If it had been a financial decision I'd be on my way to Vilnus right now.

Hearts was a bigger job, but I would never say it was a better job."

It may yet be a blessing in disguise for Mr Mr Mr Romanov; I've previously mentioned on this story that McGhee's managerial record was hardly exemplary. Far from it in fact.

I am the one and only Vlad Magic and post under no other name and no one posts under my name. Try all you want, you will stick out like a pig at a hamster convention.

So we have that cleared up:0)

Maghee was never a done deal. Wookie quite correctly predicted Maghee was in line for the managers role and I also trust that the figures quoted by him on salary and spenditure were also true. We can assume that who ever gets the job will be on comparable money/kitty.

As for people saying it was a done deal?? Dont think so. Myself included said we would be happy If Maghee came but I dont rememeber anyone saying it was a done deal.

Oh dear. Imagine that indeed.

You honestly feel that the fact you will be paying more cash to your manager is something to be proud of? That it's somehow an indicator of your club being in a better position than mine?

Oh dear.

I personally feel that manager's should be judged on past performance, much like a player. The current Hibernian manager has won a Scottish League title, as well as a 3rd-place finish in the Finnish top division that earnt a European qualification.

Of course you'll be expecting Mr Mr Mr Romanov to get a manager who has won much more than that. You get what you pay for after all?

Back from work had my dinner and ready again.

right all you inbread hobo sisterfisters lets just get one thing clear. WE had a bad season without a proper manager and finished 8th. You in comparison had a fantastic season (by the way you all seem to talk on here) with two managers and only finished 2 places higher than us.

Normal service will resume next season and again the hearts threads will be thin on the ground of plastic hobos.

Enjoy it while you can as its over and will again be a long time before it happens again.

What is all this talk of messiah? We welcomed our managers you mean? Warmly received were they? Our previous two certainly were after they guided us to 3rd spots and cup wins respectively.

Mixu '6-2' of course has received a great reception from the Hibs support as he is a man who knows our club inside out, as well as a thing or two about sticking 3 past your lot. We are more than willing to give him a achance with rebuilding this season after losing so much quality and signing a few duds.

Quite why you feel the need to try and beliitle these managers I'm not sure. I weas simply stating that the judgement of a manager should really be in his results record and not 'mines is paid more than yours'.

As you well know, we actually did well with the trying out of an inexperienced manager in Tony Mowbray so maybe Mr Mr Mr Romanov could try that route? No?

On the contrary chap, Hibernian had a good season IN THE CIRCUMSTANCES.

We had a manager walk out at Christmas, leaving a slew of bad signings and disillusioned players in his wake. We were in a terrible slump of form, relegation material really, and we also lost a quality player in January in the shape of Murphy.

To recover like we did and finish top 6, in with a chance of 3rd with 2 games to go in fact, was certainly better than could have been expected when Collins walked.

We, like yourselves, need to rebuild in the close season.

Apart from blind optimism there is not a shred of evidence to suggest you will be back up in the top 6 next season, battling for a EUFA place and above Hibs.

Hibs will bring in improved new players have a manager who is learning all the time and will be better next season and does not have to cope with meddling from above or a huge debt hanging over him.

Yes I confidently predict that Hibs will once again be battling for the EUFA place and will be above Hearts in the league. As for winning the SC, no effing chance.

Pray tell me apart from history what inspires you with confidence.

'what happens it always ends in tears like everything else at fester road.'

Um, the aforementioned 3rd spots and a cup win? Tears of joy I'll presume you mean here. Hee-hee.

'all so obsessed with Hearts you cant even see the sh1t happening at your own club'

Um, no this isn't the case. Hibs fans are more than aware with what has been going on at the club. Opinion is generally divided into 2 camps: those that wish Petrie had invested more of the fees received in new player signings; and those that understand the need for the club to get rid of its debt and improve its infrastructure in order to compete better in the future.

Both sides have their good and bad points and that's fine. Our club and our fans encourage debate about where Hibernian are headed and what they are doing. They are open, honest and transparent about the situation and one thing we all have in common is the feeling that we are definitely headed in the right direction. The speed at which we are going there is maybe the most pressing issue for some. But hey ho, we are in a better position than we were say, five years ago. Much healthier.

Sadly, for the sake of Edinburgh football, that is more than I can say for the jamtards.

kinda funny that whenever there is a slight bit of news for the hobos to jump on, the hearts threads are flooded with plastic hobos yet over the weekend when everyone thought mcghee would join the jambos you couldnt see any of the "buy a brick brigade". just remember up until he got the call from mr boyle on the plane steps mcghee too thought he would be at hearts.

Such a figure is never revealed by a football club. Other clubs could hold them to ransom in negotiations if they knew what the other side had to play with. That's simple Petrie-nomics there VM ;)

I would however speculate that our budget will compare favourably to every other SPL club, excepting of course the ugly sisters and your maroon selves. In fact not just favourably, it will be among the biggest, if not quite as much as those that are being funded by the dying multi-millionaires.

If you are referring to me being someone who has just appeared on this thread, I can refer to you to the previous news items when apparently it was a 'done deal'. I commented on those too, musing as to whether McGhee really would go ahead with the move.

Of course I had a lot of jamtards shoot me down in a manner of ways. Ah well, maybe next time.

You do know that more than one question mark is a waste don't you? It doesn't really add anything to your point. Anyway, in response to your points:

'where has all the transfer money gone?'

Well, the transfer money has been accounted for within our annual accounts. These are published yearly, on time, and in great detail. Again, unlike yourselves.

We have built our own state-of-the-art training complex with some of the money. We have cleared outstanding bank debt with the money. We have paid for players' transfer fees, compensation, signing-on fees and wages with the money. We have further improved our (already excellent) youth development.

In short, it is actually impossibe for the transfer money to have 'disappeared' or for anybody to have pocketed it. That would be illegal. You know that right?

Now, it's fair to say that it's never great when players are sold however if they want to leave, and its to a bigger, better paid job, what can a club do? One thing only: get the MAXIMUM you can for the player; cos once he's made his mind up, he won't play the same for you again.

We can both agree: Petrie has excelled at that.

As I say, all is not the rosiest with it but this lack of ambition you jamtards constantly talk about is more than a little misleading. If ambition to you, is waiting on the megalomaniac to get a decision right while he has you by the short n curlies then yeah, forget it. We don't want it.

Hibernian got almost £20million in debat under Alex Mcleish. We were dangerously close to the wall until things were changed. Petrie was in charge then, so which is it? Tightwad or big spender? I, and a lot of Hibs fans, prefer the former, as every other SPL club will testify, debt is not good.

Excpet for your club of course. Oh dear.

Hibs really have been Edinburgh's weeteam since 1
