A PUBLIC meeting to discuss the possible extension of Edinburgh's Controlled Parking Zone is to be held later this month.
The zone was extended in November to include Wester Coates, and Councillor Phil Wheeler, the city's transport leader, has now organised the meeting to sound out public opinion on the possible further extension, which may include the Murrayfield area.

The meeting is due to take place on Wednesday, January 30, at Murrayfield Church Large Hall.

The sooner it's extended all the way out to the By-Pass, the better!

#2 - I agree. make the entire city of Edinburgh council tax area permit holders only and everyone paying their council tax gets a free permit. It would sort out the congestion and may even get more people to pay their tax.

Why do people in Edinburgh need cars. Everything is on your doorstep and you have allegedly one of the best bus services in the country.

No.2 I totally agree - living in the city doesn't require the use of a car. The bus service is excellent. Park and Ride facilities are in place for those visiting the city by car - make good use of them. Over the next few years traffic congestion is to be unbearable due to the tram works - less cars on the road = less congestion.

#3 Zoobee,

Agreed, but why should the permits be free? That would mean non-car users subsidising car users by paying for the zones to be set up, the wages of the parking attendants and the admin costs of issuing permits.

Turn the whole of Edinburgh into various controlled parking zones and give residents who live in each of the zones free permits, YES FREE, permits.
That way the council will have done what it professed to be doing with this scheme, which was introducing this for the benefit of residents.
Now here is the lie. They charge residents at least £80 to park outside their own homes saying this is what it cost to administer. Liars!

#7 we meet again on opposite sides of the table.
The scam, sorry scheme was meant to be for the benefit of the residents. Can you remember that was the reason for the scam, sorry scheme. Not for profit, there is a lie if ever I heard one. The scheme of turning Edinburgh into various zones and giving each resident who applies a free permit can still self finance.
So why would you want to make them pay? Without the scheme being in place it cost you nothing and with the scheme in place run correctly it still costs you nothing.
Having said all that this tram line will cost all of us dear and the council can right off some (tiny bit) by using the revenue for CPZ for traffic related matters ie.black hole that is the tram line.

#10, do you honestly beleive for even a moment that revenue from congestion charging would be used to benefit the city? if so then you are very naive.
This council are only interested in their trams, the people of edinburgh do not want them, all polls show that but the council as usual ignore the people of edinburgh.
