SUSAN Boyle's family today said the singing sensation will "bounce back" after being admitted to the Priory clinic suffering from exhaustion.
Her brother Gerry Boyle said the Britain's Got Talent runner-up is missing her home in West Lothian – and her cat Pebbles.

And Mr Boyle, from Musselburgh, believes his sister will soon be back on her feet ready to start her new career.

He spoke to his sister last night shortly before she was admitted to the Priory.

The 48-year-old spinster was taken to the private clinic last night after show staff contacted police to say she was acting strangely at her London hotel.

Mr Boyle will find out today how his sister's recovery is going. But he said:

"She is a bit tired and maybe even a wee bit homesick.

"When I spoke to her yesterday she was asking about her cat.

"It's going to take a wee while for her to get her head round all this because she just comes from a wee village in Blackburn.

"First and foremost we have to make sure she is happy, and she is – she wouldn't change all this for the world.

"It would be nice to get her back home for a couple of days.

"But she will bounce back – we know our Susan."

Mr Boyle added: "This is the start of Susan's international career, now that the talent show is finished. She is not interested in money, she's not a material person, but what she is interested in is working with her idols and I'm sure Mr Cowell will have a few people lined up.

"I was absolutely delighted with the result on Saturday.

"In my opinion, it's not about winning the competition, it's about where your career goes afterwards."

Susan was reportedly taken by ambulance to the Priory in Southgate, north London, escorted by police.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "Police were called at approximately 6pm to a central London hotel to doctors assessing a woman under the Mental Health Act.

"The woman was taken voluntarily by ambulance to a clinic. At the request of doctors, police accompanied the ambulance."

Television company talkbackThames released a statement offering her "ongoing support" amid newspaper reports that she had run amok backstage after her loss, shouting: "I hate this show."

She also allegedly threw water over a floor manager who tried to calm her down.

TalkbackThames said Susan was "exhausted and emotionally drained" after Saturday's show.

The company said: "She has been seen by her private GP who supports her decision to take a few days out for rest and recovery. We offer her our ongoing support and wish her a speedy recovery."

The 52-bedroom Priory specialises in the treatment of mental health problems.

Diversity took 24.9 per cent of the public vote in the final, above Boyle's 20.2 per cent share. The contestant in third place, saxophonist Julian Smith, gained 16.4 per cent of the vote.

Just under four million people voted, ITV said.

The Prime Minister added his best wishes for Susan Boyle. Speaking on GMTV today he said: "I hope Susan Boyle is OK because she is a really, really nice person.

"I spoke to Simon Cowell last night and Piers Morgan and wanted to be sure that she was OK.

She has made the whole of Blackburn unbelievably proud
"SHE'S still a winner!" That was Blackburn's battle cry after Susan Boyle's Britain's Got Talent dream was shattered by dance group Diversity.

The hopes of the small West Lothian community were dashed when the 48-year-old spinster was pipped at the winning post within touching distance of £100,000 and an appearance in front of the Queen on this year's Royal Variety Performance.

But judge Simon Cowell is still expected to offer her a record deal, and she is predicted to earn up to £8 million in the United States. She has already been approached to appear in an episode of the hit American TV series Ugly Betty.

Best pal Doreen Boyle, who spoke to Susan after her performance, said she was fine and took the result in her stride.

Ms Boyle, who is no relation, said: "She has made Blackburn unbelievably proud.

"Her future has not ended with this result. During all of this she did a 'beat the bully' campaign and that she has inspired so many young people."

Susan, and Blackburn, have been overwhelmed by the media interest since she first appeared on TV at her Glasgow audition in March. Camera crews from all over the world including the BBC, CNN, French, Japanese and Brazilian news teams flocked to record Blackburn in its moment in the spotlight.

Ukranian composer Mark Shamrakov, who travelled from his home in New York, to stay in Blackburn said the singer epitomised the 'American Dream' during her seven-week journey.

He performed eight songs he wrote about her life with local musician Doog Molloy in Blackburn Community Centre's sports hall.

"I am inspired by her very much," he said. "The songs I wrote are about her life from her family, to be being bullied and her church singing."

Saturday night started full of hope and excitement in the community centre and the mere mention of Susan Boyle on Britain's Got Talent sent the 300-strong crowd into raptures.

Youngsters and adults donned Susan Boyle t-shirts and face masks of Susan as they streamed into the hall.

When she was voted into the final three tensions rose to fever pitch as photographers and camera crews scrambled to capture every emotion.

But the bubble burst when Diversity's name was called out reducing many in the hall to tears.

Some locals said they felt Susan's over-exposure had cost her the result on the night.

Lifelong friend Angie Uttley, 49, said: "For the talent she has and what she's been through – to sing like that was amazing. She's a winner in our eyes, not a loser."

Oh dear Poor Susan. Sounds like she needs to go home, look after her cat and have a good rest. I hope she's getting plenty of kind support and help and is not pushed into doing something that she's not equipped to deal with.

She is a very nervous lady and is obviously just exhausted. She was very gracious in her defeat on Saturday night and a credit to Scotland. Don't believe everything you read in the papers - believe what you see and what I saw was a lady who performed well, despite her obvious nerves and behaved wonderfully towards her fellow competitors.

If she can't cope with a simple karaoke contest, how the hell is she going to cope if she tries to pursue a career in entertainment?

A certain phrase about a square peg and a round hole comes to mind here.

just a few days ago we heard her brother say '' by the company that found susan boyle'' with the coincidence he was launching record company & hoped to sign her.
he would have done a lot better if he looked after her instead of the £ signs in front of his eyes, all blackburn will look after her mmmmmmm same blackburn that called her '' simple susan'' & threw eggs at her house truth is she should never have been put under that pressure

Please tell me where the "pressure" is in that?

She's experienced none of the trials and tribulations that many artists have experienced over the years, and neither is she ever likely to. The Simon Cowell empire with make sure of that---for a price of course.

Like I say... square peg, round hole. Don't forget that she volunteered for all this. She could have walked out at any time. There's no point in people trying to pretend that she is some kind of "victim".

Its a shame as it was stated she has mental issues, her brain was starved of Oxygon at birth and i don't think the show really supported her well. She done very well i think she needs proper help and the media should step back a while and let her get her head round this all.
12

Alternative (High-Octane) Fuel Head,

Fred,

She entered a contest which if she had won of been highly placed, whe was virtually guaranteed a lucrative career in the entertainment industry, albeit probably a short one.

The contest is not a mental health councilling service. If you enter it, you should be equipped to deal with media reporting (good and bad), public reactions and the strictures of the business side of life. If you can't, you shouldn't be there in the first place. Period.

Whilst this whole episode might be a bit distressing for Susan and her family/friends, the bottom line is that being involved in this kind of business is not in her make up. Either she should prove me wrong, pull herself together and start performing or forget the whole thing. No doubt Simoon Cowell will be saying exactly the same thing at the moment---if not in public, then certainly in private.

Let's get this straight. Susan Boyle is a woman with a lower than average mental capacity. I'm not making it up. She was starved of oxygen at birth and is therefore has a mental disability.

For some reason, many of those in the media and all of the numpties who persist on heaping praise on her, let's be honest, average singing ability, seem to want to skirt around the issue.

That's the only reason they're able to write off her inappropriate behaviour as "amusing".

What would people have said if Celine Dion had rolled her eyes, made chopping gestures to her neck, wiggled her hips like a child pretending to be sexy or lifted her skirt to the judges? She'd have been sectioned.

The reason she's made it so far is purely through Simon Cowell's brilliant manipulation of the media via all the hype he's been able to generate about her.

Remember, most people had already heard of her long before she even sang on the show for the first time. Well placed publicity announcements will do that for anyone.

She sings like one of these annoying female relatives who 'find' their vocal chords when they're singing hymns at a wedding or funeral. The difference is that her 'personality' has allowed her to feel unembarrassed about singing solo in that same way.

If she'd been pretty, she'd have been put out in the first round of the auditions for being average.

I await with interest to see who all these millions of people are who are supposedly champing at the bit to buy her CD of showtunes etc.

Your assumptions and conclusions would be correct in a world of black and white where manipulation does not exist.

As it is, a person of lower than average intelligence can quite easily be manipulated and pressured into, well, pretty much anything.

They’re not giving up are they?
The woman had a breakdown on Saturday night after losing the final, and her family and friends instantly rally round saying. “Yeah she’ll get better, and we’ll get her out on stage straight away, even if we have to strap her to a gurney.”
As #12 said, someone should have stepped in before she went on the telly if they didn’t think she could handle it. It seems pretty obvious now that she won’t be able to cope, your dreams over guys – give it up, let her go back to the life she was happy with a few months ago.

Show business, manipulation and exploitation go hand in hand. Like I said, if you can't deal with it, you shouldn't aspire to it.

As Glenda points out, had Susan been a gorgeous blonde with a stunning figure, she would have fallen at the first hurdle. I heard a 30 second trailer of her singing. After she sang the second note she tried to hit slightly flat, mussed up the phrasing and gave a generally lacklustre performance, it was clear to me then that this was all hype.

And don't even think of saying that a 30 second clip doesn't do a singer justice because with this particular kind of singer, the quality, or lack of it is immediately apparent.

Foo,

What you say is most likely true. However, you assume she has the mental capacity to aspire to show business. Has she? Does she truely understand the full implications of what such a high profile would have on her?

It appears she didn't.

You are probably correct. However, if it is the case that she can't handle it mentally, you would expect that her "loving, caring family" would have had something to say about it at an early stage and would have dissuaded her from carrying on.

They didn't... Either because they are too niaive to realise what was happening to someone they proportedly love and are close to or they genuinely believed that this was what Susan wanted and that she would be OK.

Either way, I dare say that we have now heard the last of her. If she doesn't get her act together within the next few days, Cowell will probably drop her and move on. Sad but that is the reality.

I saw the pressure on the young girl when she lost. It is very difficult to have millions of people watching you, the press, Larry King Show, The Good Morning America Show, Ophra Winfrey Show, and on and on; I doubt that Diversity group of many young men had the press that Susan Boyle got. Had USA been able to vote, Diversity would have never won. I personally preferred the singers, there were two little girls and one young boy -- but somehow British Got Talent chose some dancing act -- I thought Diversity should have been a circus act, not winner of British Got Talent. There were wonderful singers, Suan Boyle, the young girls and one boy -- any of them should have won -- that dancing act was boring. Then again, USA has seen so much of that type of act over the years -- I doubt anyone would have voted for that act. Circus acts do not go well over in USA anymore.

Let's hope Susan gets her rest and if she wants to go on with a singing career, then let her. One thing Susan Boyle will have to get over is home sickness and missing her cat. Doing a concert tour is tough, it is tough for season singers and just don't read the news anymore. I am still shocked at newspapers over there in UK still referring to a single woman as a spinster -- that is so laughable. That term spinster and old mail went out in the 1950s here in USA. Now, they call older women 35 to 100, Cougers -- single lovely lady who has the fire of a couger. Get rid of your old terms such as dowdy, spinister, etc. Whatever Susan Boyle wants -- I wish her luck and she will need a lot of energy to get through it if she chooses the singing career. Remember one thing, Susan, here in the USA, you are a "Couger" -- top of the line, beautiful, older woman. Remember that when you are reading anything negative. No one can take away from you, your beautiful singing voice and the fire you havae in your soul -- here we call it being sassy; I think you call it cheeky. Good luck again

This is not the good old US of A, we do things the way we want to do them. If you don't like it .. hard luck.

Susan would be eaten alive in America, if the pressure from Britain over the past few weeks have sent her into the Priory, heaven knows what you lot would do to her.

Her voice was OK but nothing special that's why she didn't win.

Also, the reason she appealed to certain people was because she is a frumpy, plain spinster who lives with her cat but she can sing. If she'd been a good looking, young woman she would not have had the novelty value. Very patronising of her fans indeed.

Susan Boyle is an excellent singer. Diversity would never win here in USA. I have seen that type of act -- I have never seen some dancing act win -- it is quite boring. Whether Susan Boyle goes on or not, that is her decision but for one thing, I am not going to call her a lot of derogatory names such as spinister, etc. Back off -- not in my nature -- I again stated that any of the singers should have won over some boring dancing act. The only dancing act I ever liked was the Irish dancers -- gee, could that go back to my Irish ancestry in the 1700s or 1800s.

Clearly we are not talking about the same lady here. My definition of an "excellent singer" is someone who hits every note perfectly, has an impeccable sense of rythum and timing, can control their voice and knows enough about syncopation to be able to deliver an engaging performance.

See my earlier post. The first time I heard this lady sing, she sang her second note flat. And from there it only got worse. Maybe fine if you've had a few beers down the local working men's club but that's about it.

This whole incident, and some comments from arrogant numpties above, signify all that is wrong with this country.

We have used this woman, who suffers from mental health issues, and built her up into something we all know she isn't. We've then sat back and watched her melt down as a result of it, all in the name of entertainment. Susan should never have been allowed to go on this show, or at the very least should've been given assistance and support from day one. I don't normally watch these shows - I was at a friend's house on Saturday as I don't really approve of them, especially when they have ten year olds competing. I think that is grossly unfair as children cannot really cope with rejection at such a level. I wish Susan well, and hope she gets well soon.

I can't wait to see diversity in the Royal variety show. I wonder what they'll do? Dance and throw the small members of the group up in the air. No doubt they have talent but after 5 minutes it just gets very dull and boring. I liked the 2 fat greek blokes. They were really funny. Well the first time they were. Just because Susan had some learning issues in school doesn't mean that she's mentally ill. They are two separate issues. Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison also had learning disabilities. Learning disabilities indicate at least normal intelligence.
It's easy to criticize when you haven't been in someone else's shoes. Susan showed great strength and confidence in going out there in the first place, and then in finishing every performance despite being watched by the entire world, hounded by vicious press, and losing privacy. I'd like to see any of you handle it any better than she did. And don't believe everything you hear. The press loves attention enough to invent a story if necessary.

#67:

"Three make or break live performances in front of media savvy talent show judges and a large audience, broadcast to millions of viewers."

No sweat. All you have to do is get up there and sing and make sure you stand where you were told to and don't stray too far away, else you could cause problems for the production team.

"100 grand at stake."

If you are thinking of that, you WILL fail. That kind of thing is best put out of your mind.

"150 million plus hits on youtube..."

Oh my god! someone's gone to my web-site! I must go and have a lie down!

"along with comments ranging from over the top praise, to the cruel and idiotic. A daily tabloid frenzy..."

Goes with the territory. If you don't like it, don't read it.

"Oh aye, no "pressure" there at all... I bet YOU couldn't handle it buddy."

Easy. No problem.

Typical Scottish 'I kent your faither' comments. If a star has deliberately done something immoral or illegal then fair do's, have a go (and let them... cast the first stone), but this woman hasn't even been in the business for long enough to do anything like that. The only 'crimes' she's committed has been to have had a disabilty, developed some issues and end up in the priory. Other than that all she's done is to have been successful on the tele.

To all who have had a go, shame on the lot of you. I'm ashamed to call you fellow Scots, or maybe it's you lot that are needing rehab.

#74 I agree with you - the lady has had a go and she has shown real guts. Most people who comment here, and I include myself in that, have never had a go at anything much. I think there is more than a little bit of the green-eyed monster. The majority of people cannot sing, let alone hold a tune and she can certainly do that. Some very professional people have praised her and they know what they are talking about. I hope you get well soon, Susan, good luck to you. I am sure that once you have had some rest you will be fine.

You're obsessed with colours. Green, purple etc... are you also black affronted and blue with rage on occasions?
