HEARTS striker Juho Makela will petition manager Csaba Laszlo for more first-team opportunities if his bit-part role at Tynecastle continues much longer.
The Finn's appearances this season amount to two substitute outings and he told the Evening News today that frustration is beginning to set in.

Laszlo, though, explained that Makela must impress whenever he is granted game time and cited Icelandic youngster Eggert Jonsson as an example of how to cement a place in the team.

"I know I can play, I know I can score," said Makela. "The manager has chosen other strikers so far. I've been on the bench and I'm happy that I'm involved in everything with the first team now. But I'm not happy because I'm not on the pitch.

"If it continues like this, of course we need to have more serious conversations. I will speak to the manager."

Laszlo said: "We have five strikers fit and there is big competition, I wish for every striker to score and afterwards I will be the happiest guy. If Juho gets a chance, he must use it. Eggert Jonsson is the best example and I wish for everybody to use their chance like Eggert has.

"I think Juho is professional and he understands what I want. I don't want so many things, only goals."

Despite his angst at being a peripheral figure, Makela explained that his relationship with Laszlo remains good. "I speak with him every day about football. He is the kind of manager I like because other managers in my career haven't spoken so much with me. It's important that I can speak every day with the manager.

"I haven't asked him about my situation yet. I've been on the bench and working hard in the reserves.

"It's still early in the season and there are plenty of games coming. I believe I will get the chance at some point.

"I have been building my confidence in the reserves, my match fitness is better now and I feel sharper."

Makela's contract expires at the end of the season and, asked if he will consider leaving Hearts when January's transfer window opens, he replied: "I don't want to speak about January yet, it's too early to speak."

Talking of Eggy, hope he didn't have his wages paid into a bank account back home in Iceland.

IMO Juho showed again on Saturday why he's not fit for purpose. Rotten first touch then all downhill from there. On his way.

I'm sure Juho is just glad he still has a team to play for.

After all, weren't we going bust for the 417th time today?

Zzzzzzz.

Oh Goodee!

Makela is off come January then!

Please get Beslija, Ksanavicius, Cesnauskis and Kingston to sign your petition as that may speed up there departures too!

well you can't please everyone. i wont be happy if he does get on the pitch.

it's performances in training and reserve games that get you noticed fella, not a lot of yak-yak about how you would like to play.

I'm sure I've read exactly the same article before.

Can't be any worse than Mole or Nade, but he's just not in favour.

Right. Let's try this. Add your name if you support the cause...

We, the undersigned, hereby request Csaba Laszlo to give Juho Makela a chance in the first team:

Plenty of opportunities;never seen him have a good ten minutes let alone a good game for 1st team or the reserves. Get him out on loan come winter break & away for good come end of the season.

CB JAMBO: Kingston has fell below his own standards end of last season/start of this season. However was OK v Dundee Utd & was very good v Killie. Classing him in the same category as Audry/Beslija is complete an utter nonsence.

"Laszlo said: We have five strikers fit and there is big competition"

Aye that's all well and good but in order for them to actually be considered competition or strikers they have to be able to score goals... Or am i missing something here?

Mole: Young lad, can't play the loan striker's role, one goal in about six games.

Elliot: Scores for fun in the first division, bad attitude at Hearts about two league goals in a season.

Nade: Tried to eat himself out of Tynecastle because he wasn't happy, bags of talent, bad attitude.

Tullberg: Looked sharp and clever but is not noted for being a free-scoring player.

Makela: Scores every one in six shots, bad first touch but a decent turn of pace.

Audrey: Could not score with a chocolate pen15 in a fat-chick's eatathon.

Glen: great striker with bags of energy, scores goals, has a bag of tricks, pace, enthusiasm... but young and Csaba doesn't want to burn him out.

Not what i would call great competition, if we were to sign a guy about 23-28 with a decent goal scoring record in the championship, SPL, Holland or portugal then he would take one look at that lot and think to himself: 'I can push my way to a first team pick without breaking a sweat.'

Our best option until January when we can try and track down a natural finisher is to go with Nade and Tullberg and glen on the bench in a 4-4-2 but i won't hold my breath.

Completely agree about Larry, if we were to punt him then we would be in deep 5h1t. yes he is playing bellow par but he is still the only one on that pitch that looks capable of going past opposition players when Driver and Obua are out... starting some kind of get larry out campaign would be the stupidest thing the boo boys have ever done at Hearts and they really need to think about the bigger picture. Yes Larry tries to shoot too much after beating his man but he is the only one who has been beating a man recently.

The fact of the matter is, when the chances have been given to you, you have not taken them.
In the reserve games, you've looked like a reserve team player...mmmmm.

For what he's paid he gives very little in effort. Granted he can't be at his best all the time. But at this time of economic uncertainty; to have a Billy Big Boots in the squad who earns more than everyone but fails to deliver, yet is still first pick; seriously undermines the team.

Kingston used to be the player who could turn a game around for us... now he is a frequent passenger and leaves the RB cruelly exposed every Saturday because he can't be bothered to track back... he is in short everything Miko was criticised for a couple of seasons ago, but gets very little criticism for because he isn't Lithuanian.

Maroon tinted glasses,

10/10/2008 12:47:03
Lets be honest, not one of our "strikers" is scoring goals at the moment and every one of them needs a good hard kick up the jaxi. Csaba needs to get the situation sorted out and possibly drop mole otherwise people will start to get on his back in the same way that happend to clum. It seems he isnt to favourable for glen but why not give the lad a start and then judge him. I suppose we may just have to rely on our midfield (and the hoobs keeper) to score the 4-5 goals against the green and white s...e!
18

Edinburgh's Big Team,

EH11 10/10/2008 12:47:21
He might feel he can score goals but to be a football player at a decent level you also need to be able to be comfortable on the ball and know what runs to make and when. Makela isn't and doesn't.

Agreed Nade and Tullberg are probably our best 2 options right now but also concerned they are very similar and that is why Csaba may elect to play one at a time.

That said, if you play one of Nade / Tullberg then I think Glen would compliment either far better than Mole or Audrey. Mole is a back to goal player who just doesn't get himself in dangerous positions. Audrey couldn't finish even if he did know where to be.

#17 CBJ, very little criticism? me thinks not, kingston has been lambasted from pillar to post about the being the lazy git he sometimes is, and quite rightly.

he had a slightly better game vs killie but needs to keep up the effort.

#17 Will have to agree to disagree. The ONLY time he has been guilty of what you say was at the end of last season when he was clearly being asked to play with an injury in meaningless games. (before going to Africas cup was superb;effort & performance). This season poor by his own standard but no Billy Big Boots attitude that i can see & last two games turned it around.

Personally i would be devistated if he left.

Completely agree re: Kingston. Whichever inexperienced right back we play right now is on a hiding to nothing as Kingston is a luxury player who offers little protection. Every team can have a luxury player but our problem is we have a few. The other issue is you need to contribute more going forward to make up for your lack of work rate and kingston is just not giving enough in that respect.

I would prefer him inside (centre mid) as at least he would have other midfielders in there making up for his shortfalls.

Lambasted on here and JKB doesn't count... he gets away with murder during games and there is little vocal criticism from the fans.

We don't need 'fancy dans' in the team right now we need players willing to get stuck in and make a decent challenge to win the ball.

I disagree about him in the Killie game... he was average at best, Mehdi Taouil had him in his pocket for most of the game... i'd gladly replace Kingston with him!

#CBJ: average v Killie....scored the goal/got into position for our only other three chances(should have scored ),put in half a dozen quality crosses that any decent forward would have been in place to finish....but Taouil had him in his pocket!!!

The reason he did not get vocal critisism from the fans is because of the foregoing.....certainly got it in earlier games.

I'd prefer a bit of strength on the RW

#27
Our goal was the result of a good bit o fortune... and a player of his calibre would/should not miss them. I'd say the 'three' good chances missed show he isn't performing anywhere near his capabilities.

#28
We were pedestrian against Killie and in places awful... it would be hard for Kingston to not be considered our best performer given he scored our ONLY goal.

Lads... you don't agree with me... fair play. But, IMO Kingston is wasted on the RW and for what he brings to the table vastly over paid. Csaba will never play him through the middle with Stewart and even when he played off the striker he showed absolutely no ability to prosper from that position either.

He is too slow and lazy to work the RW effectively for us... and while he can whip in a half decent croos (1 in every 3/4) It's pointless when there isn't a 'target' man there. I put it to you all that he is a shadow of the player he once was for whatever reason... and should be sold on to ease the wage bill, restore team spirit and allow us to get a proper winger in who'll WORK for us!

30

i wanna be like John Colquhoun,

cant belive this anti kinston brigade today. what kingston are you watching? easily our best player v killie. WILL slate him for the miss just before killie scored as no excuses - we should have been 2-1 up!

CB other than his free kick taouil was nowhere to be seen...larry rang rings round him. but i know who i would rather have!!! no contest!!

and stop talking nonsense! "fancy dan"!! are you completeley off your head?? you need at least one "fancy dan" or lets just make that someone who can PLAY football. you cant expect him to win the ball in his own half with a tackle, run the length of the pitch beating everyone before scoring everytime he gets the ball.

makela should just go home. his first touch against motherwell cost us a goal. he never even gets in position to hit a shot let alone score!

I`ve never seen him but the fans are usually right in their asertation of ability. He doesn`t seem to have had much chance which is more than Mole has had. That Mole couldn`t hack it at Q O S so why do we have to put up with him ? Hearts are in deep truoble. No goalscorers ,poor defenders, players played out of position. If Hibs get a chance to go for the jugular at Easter Rd next Sat. it could be a real hammering.
33

i wanna be like John Colquhoun,

10/10/2008 13:39:43
at the moment kingston would still be the first name on my team sheet. true he hasnt been playing as well as when he first arrived but to want him out already for "strength and someone willing to work" is utter pap. would you play robbie neilson rw then?? as from what you said he would fit the bill perfectly for you.
has larry done something to upset you? you want him sold on...and you think we will finish top 6 if we do that? and WHO would you replace him with as we need a stiker in january not a rw when we have a good one at the moment.

so in a game where as you put it "We were pedestrian against Killie and in places awful... it would be hard for Kingston to not be considered our best performer given he scored our ONLY goal."
yet you would still want rid of this guy? then we would have had NOONE v killie with passmarks.

kingston plays on the right as thats HIS preferred position.

Kingston came to us as a DM player... someone supposedly who could tackle?!

I watched closely the ding dong battle that he and taouil had and he was easily pushed off the ball apart from one instance when he had a rush of blood to the head and went through taouil, giving away a free kick!

Teams need skillful players... Hearts especially, but not at the expense of results. We need to be harder to beat first and then start to look at fancy footwork.

Kingston offers very little other than the occasional bit of skill, the odd goal and a lot of arm waving. If he played like he did when he first arrived then I wouldn't be slating him at all.

However, to me he looks like a player going through the motions, safe in the knowledge he won't get dropped, won't get injured as he never goes for a 50/50 ball .... and most importantly has a deal to be somewhere else come January.

Just my own opinion tho.
35

Talk o' the Toun,

CBJ: completely different debate as to his best position(agree not wide right) but FFS how can you single him out for critisism(bracketed with Beslija!!!)based on hom being MoM v Killie only because every one else was worse/he was played wide/no point in crossing quality balls as we have sh1te strikers.

Be carefull for what you wish for. he is our most talented player by a mile.

#11 agree with the majority of your assessment of the strikers and fully agree that in January we should look for someone with a bit more experience and proper eye for goal.

What I do wonder in the mean time is if the strikers were coached to make better runs and movement this might at least increase the number of shooting chance we get in game. I think at the moment there is a lack of a link between attacking midfield and forwards. While not plentyful, there has been a number of occasions when ball are played into the box and the strikers are not making the runs to front post & penatly spot that would potentially open up chances. I wonder therefore if someone like John Robertson was brought into the coaching set up this movement could be tought? I believe a natural goalscorer is just that runs and finishing at natural in the meantime lets try and improve what we have.

IMO of the strikers we have Glen is most NATURAL scorer but Makela my well be next best (of this type) after. I have not seen reserve games which many have, so my opinion is based on the very little first team chances he has had (goals in cup games last season and goal against Barca a year ago). I would like to see him start and four or five full games to show what he can do. It can not be worse than Mole or Audrey who if played all season would struggle to score ten goals between them!

Never doubted his skill or ability for one minute... easily the most talented player at Hearts and possibly the spl.

What I question is his application, work rate , attitude and enthusiasm to help the team!

I'd have old Kingston playing through the middle every Saturday... the new one need to GTF or at the very very least dropped for a game or three!
43

Who?,

10/10/2008 13:56:49
Makela- if he hasn't been able to make an impression after 2 years he never will. £5k per week basic is a joke for somebody of his ability.

Kingston- probably hearts best player but he will only show it if the mood takes him. When good players start to leave a club(as they have since kingston arrived) the remaining good players look around and start to wish that their next to go. He must watch some of the players who play in the EPL, spain or italy and know he has the ability to play there. He's 29 so in the peak of his career and wasting it in a footballing backwater.
44

i though kingston was more of a hartley style player as he got the no. 10 shirt and dont think he was signed as a DM. he has always played wide right for ghana.

kingston is our only attacking option at the moment so to say he offers very little just isnt true.
i do agree that we havent seen the best of him in the last few months but to want him imo is lunacy. he is our BEST player. as TOTT says just be careful what you wish for. the hearts team without larry at the moment wouldnt be worth going to see!

#32 Spot on, he was totally at fault for Motherwell's 2nd goal (which is why he got the Csaba slap at the end of the game).

In his defence he has only had 2 subs appearance this season (don't know about reserve games). If he has been gash in the reserves as well, then fine he should go. If he hasn't played, give him a run (or game) in the 1st team in home game(s)(he can't be any worse than Nade?). If he doesn't then deliver, bye bye, if he does, then we have an answer to our goal scoring problem.

He plays wide right for Ghana as that is the only place they have for him in the midfield... or are you saying he should replace Essien?!

Football is a TEAM game and sometimes for the sake of the TEAM the BEST player has to go/be dropped.

As i've already said; I recognise he is the most gifted player at Tynecastle... but he is a passenger for a large proportion of the game and only 'brings it' when he feels like it. You can tell if he is 'up' for a game after his first couple of touches these days and so far this season... he ain't doin it!

For what it's worth i'd say that Csaba is partly to blame for Hearts and even Kingston's failings this season... we play a stupid system with players played out of position and until that changes Hearts FC will struggle to make the top 6.

All our goal threat comes from midfield at the moment... and when that isn't working well, we are stuffed.
48

i wanna be like John Colquhoun,

10/10/2008 14:16:43
the problem with makela is that it doesnt really matter what he does in terms of reserve goals etc or the fact that he only gets 5-10 mins at the end of a game.

but its not much of a defence if your a striker and come on the park and actually cost your side a goal (not score one like you should be doing)as if i was csaba i would know that he is a liability and has shown that he has offered nothing in terms of a goal threat FOR hearts! the opposite actually.
im just astounded that a professional footballer can have such a poor first touch. i mean FFS what the f*** are they doing all day!

nade has ability and a quality first touch that doesnt COST us golas. thats the difference. glen in before makela imo.
49

NotAgain...surely!!!!,

coming on for 5 minutes at the end of a game once in a blue moon is hardly giving him much of a chance, no wonder he cost a goal, he has absolutely no match fitness or match sharpness. After how ever many years and only 3 or 4 appearances his confidence is probably rock bottom. These players need to be given a chance, 2 or 3 games in a row at least and then make a judgement whether they are p1sh or not!

From what has been said on here before he is not up to much in the reserves anyway(anybody go to the games let us know)but what is talking to to the press for if he hasnt even spoken to the boss about it,he said he speakes to him evry day at training.
Kingston is not trying I dont think,if the ball lands at his feet very good, when is the last time you saw him get to the bye line and cross?Never he puts the ball in from about 50yards away and young Mole and co have to play with there backs to goal all the time.Sorry but hes to lazy for me and at £15,000 a week its not on for me, we cant aford him which a shame he looked good to start with but hes not value for money now.

Is that story only in the paper or does it start on Monday? Should be interesting....

#57 just cant get your logic why such a sad wee pleb comes on here every day when your not a hearts fan yet are so interested in everything we do, trying to get someone just to notice you when all the time we are thinking "not again..surely" why doesnt he just shut up.
was going to ignore your post entirely as it doesnt really justify a response as its a - nonsense and b - not even funny. what the f*** has jupiter and the moon got to do with it.

"We have five strikers fit and there is big competition"

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't the concept of a "striker" is that he "strikes" the ball (either with his foot, knee, head or @ss if that's what it takes) in the general direction of the goal. And every once in a while it goes in.

Otherwise he's just a big, fat waste of fvcking money.
Should anyone tell Laszio?

Colquhoun the reason I like to come on here is because yourself and others are very funny. Not funny haha funny but just plain laughable funny. I read your posts and I laugh. I look at the way you go 60 posts back and forth Kingston- good, Kingston - bad, I love all the little things you all come with about how hearts are a "big team" and how things should be turned around and really it is just all a bit of a laugh to me. You really shouldnt take it all so seriously, its a forum on a substandard local newspaper not a FIFA delegates meeting. I should thank you really, you help my days at work pass easier. I feel sorry for you that it upsets you so much and you have to result to swearing and personal insults when in reality you know absolutely nothing about me.

im not upset so no need to feel sorry for me! trust me its you who needs the sympathy! your clearly not a jambo yet spend your whole time thinking your winding us up and we are all pulling our hair out and getting stressed at you. not all. i just feel sorry for you that this is how you get your kicks as i usually skip your posts and dont even read the. a little tiring but i dont stress out about it. glad to hear you think i am though. hope it gives you a wee buzz or a fuzzy warm feeling. i mean your post at 63 is pointless and you are clearly just after a little attention...how many times you seen kingston play? and feel that you need to comment on it. hearts are a big team - biggest in edinburgh by a country mile!

the fact you are on here every day reading my "laughable" comments says more about you than me im afraid. but im glad i can contribute to your otherwise sad existence.

69

A Jambo come rain or shine,

#66 Aye but some people on here actually want to have a debate about things - players, team selections, formations and then trollops like you come along, irritate people deliberately and the whole things turns into a kids forum.
Why don't you go to a kids forum where you'd be more welcome and be with like minded people?
70

NotAgain...surely!!!!,

10/10/2008 16:04:09
Well the tone of your post indicates that you are upset. I dont know why you think I need sympathy, I dont come on here every day, occasionally I come on more than I should and maybe dont get as much work done as I should but not that often. Who the hell are you to judge people anyway, Ive seen some of the things you say to the Hibs fans and some of the things the other Hearts fans say to the Hibs fans or about the Hibs fans? Your just a bloody hypocrite. Its only banter and generally the ones that I dish it too are the ones that give it out too. So how about you get of your high horse and get a life Colquhoun?

What have Hearts done in the last 2 years to indicate or give any credence that they are a big team or warrant being called a big team? Nothing whatsoever. The opposite in fact. You are not a big team, the evidence is there to show it. You have a reputation not just in Scotland but around Europe as being a laughing stock. People that would never before know who Hearts are do now. Not for anything positive though.
71

NotAgain...surely!!!!,

10/10/2008 16:07:05
71 when it suits you want to discuss issues. dont kid yourself, there are more jambo wind up merchants on here than Hibs that is plain to see. These are not Hearts forums only for Hearts fans.

#72 i have never gone on a hibs story or posted anything about hibs fans that wasnt a response to what i see on these threads. i dont come on here for a wind up....what have i said to a hibs fan that hasnt been a response to some innane drivel about flats, tesco, administration etc?? and generally posts such as yours. again i would give you some "banter" if your posts merited it but they are childish. im a hearts fan on a hearts forum putting my point across about my team. but your posts are not like that. the hibs fans that come on here and actually have a sensible discussion/point i think is great and encourage it but your posts are a waste of space/time. i told you hearts are the biggest team in edinburgh - thats what every jambo that says "big team" means. i know for a fact we arent a big european footballing power. never said we were. big team refers to our status in edinburgh as edinburghs most successful club.
#77 has seen right through you too so is it just me on my high horse...oh well, will get off it and drink my milk.

4RSEHOLE footballing quote of the season so far.

David Murray at the rioters AGM........
"Scotland's real hidden shame is obesity".

So any fat sods out there - hang your heads in shame - you should be singing sectarian songs instead of eating.

Did a recent footballing survey not have Rangers fans as most likely to be overweight (amongst SPL clubs)
Now that IS ironic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
76

A Jambo come rain or shine,

10/10/2008 17:03:11
#73 Not for a moment did i suggest these are for Hearts fans only. What i said was that you are here mainly for a wind up and to get a reaction which is boring and rather pathetic. As 76 says, come on with a valid point and discuss it and as a Hibs or OF fan you will get a sensible answer. Come on here to rile up the Hearts fans and you'll get abuse. But hey, that seems to be your point in coming on here so well done - successful day for you.

" Hearts star Makela..." I have a problem with this because the guy has hardly played because he's either been out on loan or out of favour - so I hardly think he could be considered " a star".

When he has played he's scored, like the hat-trick vrs Alloa and a great goal vrs Barcelona at Murrayfield!

To those who say he hasn't done it in the SPL, I'd say well neither has Mole, Eliot, Nade or even Tullberg yet!

He had a great scoring record at Helsinki so get him in the team and give him a decent run! Then and only then can we judge him! Anyways he cannae be much worse than Jamie Mole and Pie-muncher Nade can he?

MON THE HEARTS & Juho!

After reading this article again I can't believe that this guy doesn't get a game!

His attitude is spot on, he been patient, he is a proven goalscorer( isn't that what we're lacking at the moment?)and I imagine he works hard too!

Ridiculous that nobodies like and Nade get on the team sheet every week, but this guy is frozen out again!

If I was him and I wasn't starting regularily by Xmas I'd be off in January!

Laszlo, please get Mole off and Juho on! He's much more the finished article with a killer touch in front of goal! How stupid do you have to be to ignore that?

Well said the lyon fellow. Someone has to partner this new guy tullberg up front. tullberg seems to have abilty to knock the ball down & hopefully has pace with the ball at his feet. Nobody can stick the neck out and say who that partner should be. Im going to bore everyone with my opinion here though. I honestly think we dont have a choice against the hibs but to go 5 across the middle making sure kingston gets in and around the box with tullberg. The rest of the strikers just aint got it. With 5 in the middle and a fit bruno back we will nail them. I would also like to see jonson back in a defensive midfield role allowing kingston and bruno to push on with mikey stew passing and digging. COME ON THE HEARTS..

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!

#78 serg has been trolling about on yakbak where certain threads and posts have been posted lampooning the ever-hysterical hobos, a trap if you will to get the pea-brained maggots to start obsessing about administration... AGAIN.

sergy's trolling days are coming to an end, as some of the regular posters know. some other pathetic piece of dog's doings will have to take up the mantle.

Take a day off please , your are becoming as big a pain as Mixu 6-2 , no matter your sign on (it changes so often)
You need to get out more but for that you would need friends.
As for the derby i am not quite as confident as some other Hibees , I don't like the 3 man diamond and the Hertz 5 man set up including Stewart , Kingston , Driver (if fit)could have a field day , but then again so could Del boy. Time will tell , lets hope it's a cracker and lets show show the Old Filth how fans should behave with good natured banter and no filth and bile.

Since you backed up my tactics earlyer by fearing our midfield, im going to admit that im a little weary of your strikers, not just riordan. Re-Makela. I,m afraid I disagree.

He is one of the worst players EVER to wear the maroon.

When people say he hasn't had a chance that's just not true. Watch him play for the reseres on Hearts world if you don't believe me.

lots of interesting stuff floating about. probably bollicks, but well orchestrated bollicks if so. salient points (and some of these are coming in from posters who are apparently credible on kickback):

- HBJ Gately Wareing have been appointed as administrators (apparently info gained from more than once source in embra legal circles)
- Police have been asked to be in Gorgie this evening following some announcement (from a copper)

I don't believe it, as there have been so many of these, but it seems well put together, and according to threads on sickbag and .net the rumour seems to be all round edinburgh
