THE 300th anniversary of the Act of Union is to be marked by a series of high-profile lectures in the Capital in the new year.
Hosted by the University of Edinburgh, leading scholars and commentators including Tam Dalyell and Dr Richard Holloway will speak about the 1707 treaty between Scotland and England. Topics will include the controversial origins of the treaty, the global consequences of the Anglo-Scottish relationship, nationalism and devolution in the late 20th century and the state of the Union today.
At each of the events, members of the audience will be given the opportunity to question the speakers and comment on the lectures.
All events are free, although a ticket is required. The first talk will be held on January 10, ahead of the official tercentenary of the Union on May 1. Tickets can be booked online at
