The US appears to have rejected draft proposals by Germany for G8 members to agree tough measures on greenhouse gas emissions, leaked documents have shown.
Wide-ranging US amendments to a draft communiqué prepared ahead of June's G8 summit in Germany cite a "fundamental opposition" to the proposals.

Germany wants all G8 members to agree timetables and targets for major cuts.

In the document, US officials make major changes to the communiqué.

In comments printed in red ink, the US negotiators express disappointment that earlier concerns have not been taken on board.

The changes strike out entire sentences and significantly reduce the certainty with which the statement addresses climate change.

"The US still has serious, fundamental concerns about this draft statement," a red-inked note reads.

"The treatment of climate change runs counter to our overall position and crosses 'multiple red lines' in terms of what we simply cannot agree to," it continues.

"We have tried to 'tread lightly' but there is only so far we can go given our fundamental opposition to the German position."

what germany really means is we want the g8 members to agree to tax the people even more under the guise of cutting global warming.

Now it should be abundantly clear, even to school children, that Americans have total disregard for our planet. America is hell bent on destroying the our beautiful Earth. Damage that cowboys are causing to our environment is now almost beyound repair. They have caused climate change and this is going to sink us all.

I think its time international community boycotts everything American. Europe should place sanctions of all US good. Unless our stupid friends across the pond are forced to see the global destruction they have caused, I think they will continue to ignore the dangers their greed for oil is causing.

....I agree absolutely with your first paragraph.

Maybe the second is a bit harsh. Sanctions would probably be the best way to go.

I meant phased sanctions until they realised that they are destroying the planet.

If you have ever seen the pollution allowed in Texas while Bush was governor, you'll see that it's hopeless trying to convince him to care about the environment. The lack of concern by this administration is a disgrace. The almighty dollar for FOGS (Friends of George) have left the rest of us in smog and gasping for clean air. The asthma rate in young children continues to grow each year. As a teacher, I have seen more and more children each year using inhalers.

A shared brain would be superior to the shrivelled acorn you call a brain inside your skull.

Actually, many of the US states and cities are taking climate change seriously and instituting measures like building lots of windfarms which run on free fuel. Meanwhile in Scotland the nimbys are sabotaging this most effective renewable.
