COUNCIL chiefs today praised local authority workers for their response to last year's major leak at Seafield Sewage Works.
The breakdown at the plant in April 2007 saw 100 million litres of sewage released into the Firth of Forth.

An independent study commended the local authority for its management of the incident, and a new council report praises the actions of staff who responded out of hours.

Councillor Robert Aldridge, the city's environment leader, said: "I would like to thank all the staff who reacted to this incident when it occurred and went out of their way to make themselves available to assist, regardless of it being out of hours."

Sure, credit where it is due, but who was to blame for this 100 million litre torrent of $hit?

There should be no thanks at all - instead those responsible for this failure should be named and shamed. Those sorting it out were only doing their job, therefore do not deserve a special mention.

Do you think it’s right for the council to spend £100,000 on a tree survey?
Yes, urban trees are so important to the quality of life
No, the cash could be spent on better things
Idea’s great, timing terrible given the cuts to services
