A NEW police counter-terrorism campaign urged the public today to report anyone suspicious who owns several mobile phones.
The posters also call on people to pass on information about anyone displaying "odd" behaviour such as photographing CCTV cameras or other security measures.

The five-week campaign aims to raise awareness of the sort of behaviour that may mark out a terrorist.

One poster says: "Terrorists need communications. They often collect and use many anonymous pay-as-you-go phones, as well as swapping sim cards and handsets.

"If you're suspicious of the number of phones someone has, we need to know."

Scotland Yard terror chief Peter Clarke said: "Terrorists will not succeed if suspicious activity is reported to the police."

He added: "We want people to look out for the unusual – some activity or behaviour which strikes them as not quite right and out of place in their day-to-day lives.

Terrorists had a lot of work to do before they attacked, he said, and might commit fraud to get money.

He also urged people to look out for anyone buying large quantities of chemicals.

The Stasi is alive and well and operating in London.

If further proof was needed that this government has nothing but the 'control' of it's 'citizens' in mind then this drivel from the Met is resounding proof.

I would normally not mention Hitlers' Germany, as reference to it, is normally taken on forums as in indication of 'losing the argument', but Fascist Germany, worked the same 'oracle' as Brown, and previously Blair, are now working, The TU's being demonised by Thatcher, were all but excluded by the Nu Labour/Owld Torie party, then there was Mullen's attack on Freemasons, substitute Muslims for Jews, Scottish Nationalist for Communists and it is the exact same recipe.

Now they want you to 'spy' on your neebor, which they already have asked you to do with regards to 'Benefit Fraud'. Whilst the party faithful are being protected by 'placemen' within the investigatory and legal system.

We are already the most 'spied' upon citizens in the world. It is now time to rise up and say NO!!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! We will no longer tolerate this great crime that is being committed against us.

It is Time!!!

What a load of rubbish.

#2's comment about the Stasi is bang on.

There may be a grain of truth about "terrorists" having many mobiles and sims, but then so do drug dealers and other criminals.

If terrorists exist in the UK (which I don't believe they do) then they will not be so mind-numbingly stupid as to advertise the fact that they have several mobile phones and sims. Neither will they be so unaware as to openly photograph CCTV installations.

I really find it difficult to believe that the authorites are peddling such unadulterated rubbish. Do they REALLY think that everyone is stupid? Maybe they do.

Welcome to the police state; things are only going to get worse. I have to have two mobiles as I have had the same sim card for 10 years but if I need to access my voicemail I have to use my old phone as it won't work on my current one. The kicking-in of my door is imminent!

My time is far too valuable to waste it on owning or using a ghastly mobile telephone. I do, however, know some people whose lives are so empty and wretched that they feel the need to own more than one mobile telepone. These people should certainly come under the scrutiny of either the police or their local psychiatric services.

The Scotland Yard terror chief urged people to look out for anyone buying large quantities of chemicals. From the contents of your post I suspect that you have been buying large quantities of chemicals - of the mind bending variety.

8 I still don't believe it, There may be a few, but the biggest threat still comes from the Blair regime and public attitudes in britain. These entities still put the citizens more at risk than ever before.

I can only conclude that the Scotland Yard terror chief should be on the Muppet Show. Now he is going to wage a 5 week terror campaign - I eagerly await the next decree.
I shall report myself for having two mobiles, and for taking pictures.

I also have 2 mobile phones 1 is for personal calls and the other is for business.

so whats next anyone who has more than 1 key on their keyring is a terrorist, or anyone who owns more than 1 orange suit is a super terrorist.

They need to catch the real criminals! and who are they I hear you ask?

Oh that would be the politicians like Brown Blair etc they are the real Terrorists implementing the plans for one world government, soon there will be no borders no rights, Wake up people!!!.

Peter clarke may well be right. Terrorists may well use multiple phones. So do I. For various reasons, I have seven (yes SEVEN) unlocked handsets, which I swap my two UK and one Spanish pay as you go sim between. So, quick, call the cops (shock horror!!) I must be a baddy. I honestly, just like fiddling with different phones on different weeks, but I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN.

Honestly, this country gets more like communist N.Korea every day. In countries such as that, the police rely on all members of the public to spy on others, with the end result that nobody dares to mention police behaviour, as the person they talk to could report it.

I so agree with poster 2 above regarding the way in which the East German secret police (stasi) operated. I point blank refuse to 'spy' on my neighbours, and any nosey parkers near me had better mind their own business.

It is only a short step before people will be asked to 'report on suspicious neghbours who may be 'enemies of the state'. The secret police will come at night and remove them. Permanently.

Recent developments regarding the police in this country are really, genuinely, starting to scare me.

Just look at Tommy Sheridan, whether you like him or not, it is abundantly clear that the Scottish 'establishment' including the police do not like him, and will use their powers to prove a point.i.e reporting his wife for having some whisky miniatures - nothing to do with perjury, just a police force who don't like to be openly criticised. Watch out, they'll get you next.

john z,

I have a question;

Ask yourself this, are you afraid to openly (not anonymously) question the behaviour of the police in this country, for fear of what the consequences may be for yourself (i.e put on a 'watch' list, phone getting bugged, E-mail intercepted, mail being read etc..).

Are we now at the turning point in this country, where people who question police/government behaviour are in some way marked as potential problem citizens, who need to be monitored??

A Friend of Fernando Poo,

I've seen a great deal of odd behaviour with these portable telephones. Some youngsters use them as they cross the roads, oblivious to traffic. Some use them in libraries and cinemas. Some, and I know you'll be astonished, have even been seen to use them at table.

I knew that such unparalleled rudeness was surely impossible and I'm indebted to the Evening news for the esplanation that these ignorant teenagers are in fact terrorists.

I'll sleep much easier knowing this.

Confession. Four of my six mobiles are gathering dust in a drawer. The other two are for current use home and abroad. The earlier ones I will sell, minus SIM-cards, as collectors' items on Flea-Bay.

A few weeks back we took some nice pics of Brazilian dancers in Hong Kong rehearsing for the New Year parade. We were witnessed by at least 10 smiling HK police enjoying the occasion.

Seriously, these sinister "campaigns" signal more erosion of personal freedom. Mention above of the Stasi ain't so far-fetched.

2/ Spying on your neighbours, such as being asked to report on neighbours who do not buy pork at the butchers sufficiently regularly, was definitely a gestapo tactic.

I repeat. This is NOT the way we were brought up, to tell tales and run to report people.
