What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? I am originally from Eindhoven in the Netherlands and have been in the UK since 2006, so for me it would be flying in on a weekend through the dark clouds, seeing the Castle rising above P
rinces Street, trying my first haggis (and actually enjoying it!) and meeting very friendly and hospitable people.
What are your memories of school? Coming in every Monday looking forward to Friday. Some interesting classes and those you slept through (who needs to know what a mussel consists of?). I went to St Joris School in Eindhoven.
What is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? Hectors in Stockbridge. Great atmosphere, good drinks and food and friendly service. Always buzzing and really good seating areas (when you can get one).
What are the best things about Edinburgh? It has everything you need of a major city! Culture, entertainment, nightlife and soon a tram ...
I like the difference within the city – Old Town and New Town. Golfing in the Meadows on a Sunday, the buzz of rugby days and great performances during the Fringe.
What would you change about the city? Close down the Royal Mile and Princes Street during the Festival and lower council tax! On a serious note, I wouldn't want to see the city change its appearance too much as it is unique.
Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out? Golfing in the Meadows during the day, fish and chips at the Golf Tavern, ending up in Grassmarket for some more drinks. And no rain for the whole day.
Which sports interests you? Football (Premier League I'm afraid), tennis and golf.
What was your most embarrassing moment? Finding out that you should really wear underwear under a kilt ...
What is your greatest achievement? Jumping the bungee jump in Bloukrans in South Africa – the highest one in the world – skydiving and white shark diving, all in one weekend!!
Sum up Edinburgh in three words? Pubs, hospitable, culture.
