A FOOTBALLER is due to appear in court after being charged with racially abusing a player.
Whitehill Welfare player Wayne McIntosh, 22, is alleged to have made racist comments to Spartans player Dan Gerrard during an East of Scotland League match last August. The alleged incident during the game at Whitehill's Ferguson Park ground in Rosewell, Midlothian, was initially reported to the SFA, who took no action.

After the club took the matter to the Scottish Parliament, a criminal investigation was started.

Earlier this week McIntosh was charged with racially aggravated breach of the peace.

He is to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on May 10.
