A TEENAGE girl led a racist attack by a group of youths against a Sikh man on a bus in Edinburgh.
The 22-year-old man was verbally abused on the Number 26 Lothian bus to Corstorphine at around 10.30pm on Saturday.

The man, who was wearing a turban, boarded the bus at Haymarket with a friend. Shortly after, a group of teenagers got on near the Murrayfield Ice Rink and racially abused the victim, partly due to his traditional clothing.

The female main suspect got off the bus at the top of Drum Brae Drive, near to the Fox Covert housing estate.

She is described as white, 16 to 20, 5ft 8ins, slim, with blonde hair, which was tied up in a ponytail. She was wearing a white jacket and grey jeans.

A police spokesman said: "The victim was left extremely upset as a result of this incident, which shows a lack of respect for the victim's faith.

"We want anyone who witnessed the incident, or who knows the identity of any of the youths involved, to get in touch."

If the police have CCTV from the bus, they should print them. And if not, why not...?

#4 - Jock McSpock - I agree.

The CCTV images should be released so people can see whether they recognise the nasty, cowardly racist.

Edinburgh is full of 16-20 year old lassies with blonde hair, so the description released is fairly useless.

#5 Erm ... I'm hoping this comment is simply about the lack of the word alleged, or do you have some dodgy agenda?

#6 Absolutely!
I wish some of the time they would say "we are collecting CCTV images and will be approching residents at the top of Drum Brae Drive, near to the Fox Covert housing estate, for information".

#1. Didn't you mean 'brainless schemie skid-mark'?!!
Nice girl like that is bound to have got on a few people's nerves with her mouth in the past so show the CCTV image and let people who recognise her have a word to the police. Edinburgh is an incredibly small place for teenagers who go out and about as this girl no doubt does, and she will be recognisable to plenty of other people in that age group.

I just hope the "EXCELLENT" CCTV systems that buses have comes in use for once. People like this should be put down and not allowed to be out of their cages.

Tut tut to the Police spokesman - it's not the man's faith the schemie was showing a lack of respect for - it was the MAN she was showing a lack of respect for.

Gorgie_Tony,

Wasn't there an incident invilving youths and yourself last June that you forgot to mention?

#10 Defender of the faith,

I think those CCTV cameras have already come in useful on a few occassions.

Brettgallacher # 5,

I'm afraid what you said is illogical. What if there were numerous witnesses? Would it still be alleged even although nobody had been charged or arrested?
