RESIDENTS concerned about plans for an out-of-town supermarket have been reassured the application will take into account a study on whether another supermarket is needed.
Tesco has lodged plans to create a new superstore on a site near Gateside Road, Haddington, and local residents have voiced concerns about the application, fearing it would be decided upon before a retail study has been completed.

In response, Pete Collins, director of environment at East Lothian Council, said: "It is disappointing and frustrating that developers submit applications they know to be premature. Such applications achieve no purpose other than to raise public concerns and add work to a planning service that is already overstretched."

Let them build at Gateside but insist Tesco and Sainsbury pay for the railway line to Haddington to be reinstated and since the track goes past Gateside they can bring all their stock in by rail.

But people "didn't want" it, not sure of the whole story.

So Haddington could have had a Branch Line at little cost!!!
