MATT MUSTCHIN'S hopes of a first-ever Six Nations Championship appearance were dashed today when it was revealed that the Scotland utility forward will undergo surgery on an ankle injury tomorrow.
Edinburgh forward Mustchin, born in New Zealand but eligible for Scotland on residency, made his debut on the summer tour of Argentina sharing in a famous win in Buenos Aires.
From there he turned out in all three Autumn Tests and his ability to play either second row or flanker made him an important part of coach Frank Hadden's squad.
However, Edinburgh coach Andy Robinson today revealed: "Matt undergoes surgery tomorrow and will be out for three months."
The Evening News revealed last week that Mustchin was doubtful to add to his five caps so far.
