SCOTLAND manager Berti Vogts is convinced his team is just hours away from achieving an historic result in Amsterdam tonight.
Vogts conceded that Dick Advocaat’s side was technically superior but insisted he was confident his underdogs could still come out on top after their magnificent 1-0 victory at Hampden on Saturday.

He said: "When the play-off draw was made in Frankfurt I said: ‘Okay, when we beat Holland 2-1 at home or maybe get a draw, that’s good.’ But we beat them 1-0 so we are very, very close to a historic moment for the boys.

"We know that better players are in the Dutch side but my boys play with power, with emotion and there is a big, big chance for them.

"The Dutch can go back to their big teams, to Juventus, Ajax or Manchester United and play in the Champions League next week. My boys are looking only for success in Euro 2004 and maybe we can all go off together to the Algarve."

The Dutch camp has had to vigorously deny reports players went out partying after arriving back in Amsterdam on Saturday night, but Vogts was convinced such allegations would have little effect on Advocaat’s team selection.

He said: "Rafael van der Vaart will start. He plays behind the striker but we have no special plan for him. I have to look to my boys. I don’t look to the Dutch."

Vogts must replace suspended Christian Dailly, who performed a midfield holding role in the first leg.
