HEARTS players are overdue bonus payments dating back to the start of the season, a matter on which Vladimir Romanov was questioned during his brief meeting with the squad last week.
The majority shareholder flew to Edinburgh last Wednesday to introduce Ivan Svabovic, a prospective new sports director, to his players. Near the end of the meeting he invited any questions, which prompted Lithuanian defender Marius Zaliukas to ask: "When will we get our bonuses?" Romanov replied: "Have you won any games?"

Hearts have recorded two league victories, two Co-operative Cup wins and a European triumph this season but players have no idea when their bonus payments will arrive.

Club director Sergejus Fedotovas said today that the Tynecastle squad did not deserve any extra monies due to their sub-standard performances: "The players have had their salaries every time for four years since we bought the club and the bonuses are paid when they are deserved. The salaries are always paid according to the contracts and the board decides when the bonuses are paid. The team has earned very little bonuses this season, we need to improve our on-field performance. The payments are on time at the club."

Romanov returned to Lithuania last week without giving the squad any indication of when their increments will be processed. He has made it known that he is unimpressed by Hearts' start to the season with the club sitting eighth in the SPL table after ten matches.

Hearts players twice had their wages delayed last season before eventually being paid in full. The club blamed the problem on a technical glitch whilst parent company Ukio Bankas Investment Group stressed there was no long-term financial problem.

Another piece of motivational genius from Vlad et al. Happy days for we Jambos. Cannae wait till Saturday. I'm going to adopt the same behind-the-couch and through-the-fingers viewing position I used to use whilst watching the scary scenes in Doctor Who back in the auld days.....mind you the good Doctor still seemed to come out unscathed...straws...grasping...

It is the Hearts fans who should pocket the bonus not the players !
To be honest if the players are due money then why has it not been paid ? why are the players not pursuing it further through the players union ? Good timing before a Derby....we'll be there.

C'mon the Gorgie !!

Well done vlad, what a way to encourage them to go out and get more win-bonuses, question the validity of ones owed.

What kind of motivational strategies are left?
The boss doesn't care
without bonuses the players don't care
the fans will be there, but most of them have given up hope
maybe the ref will care about rangers and try to dislodge us from 2nd?

" without bonuses the players dont care" ?????
Pretty much sums up why Hearts are dire then.
For once i fully agree with the mad one.
Under achieving, lazy , malingering , useless , inept ,money grabbing no hopers....they should be looking to work for the banks, they would fit in well there.
Csaba wont tell them, no fears for the owner.
They are well paid and doing a job ( if it can be called that ) that most of us would of sold our soul for. That alone should be incentive enough, But add to that the pulling on off the famous maroon jersey and running out infront of 14000 paying loyal supporters should be more than enough to motivate them.
Sadly not, glad they got the message, cant do any damage, i mean they are p1sh now what harm can it do??
Well done ohh mad one.

Vlad is a clever man and why should he pay bonus payments to the numpties that are playing week in week out just now.

It sure aint gonna be win bonuses that's for sure.

Sell the ground and build flats Vlad. Best move for you and all in Edinburgh.

#6 I wondered who'd be first with that...

Interesting one, if the players contracts don't stipulate when these should be paid, then I agree - they should be held back until the performances improve.
If Vlads riding roughshod over contractual obligations, and just doing what the hell he wants, then I suspect we'll see the few players of any worth heading out the door in January.

If only there was a decent investigative journalist at the local paper, we could maybe find out the truth.
But where's the fun in the truth? Wild speculation is much more entertaining!

Thats the way Vlad....a swift kick in the nads for the players. They HAVE won games, they deserve the bonus payments that go with that. If they dont get the money they will become demotivated, evidence of this could be the current form.

I work in sales, if I sell sonmething I get a bonus...botoom line. If I didnt then why would I bust my chops to sell the stuff.

The players, I'm sure, will have it in their contracts that if they win they get £XX. What Vlad is probably playing on here is the fact the contracts likely do not say "bonus will be payed within X weeks of win" or similar. This would certainly p1$$ me off.

My guess is the players agents are currently scurrying about looking for the quickest way for their clients to escape the Mad Vlad Empire.

No...YOU can't be sure about anything with Vlad. Anyway, the've got a cheek asking for a bonus after the performances so far this season. If they win Saturday then I'm sure the bonuses will be paid.

No problem with this, the bonus agreement will be written into their contracts like any other contract of employment. I'd imagine if they were due it they get it, but in my opinion, they are due nowt for the time being. Win the Derby and I might change my opinion

Not again!

I think this is just more mind games from Vlad as opposed to financial problems, but is this the best way to motivate the players?

Then again, you have to ask yourself why did they not get their bonuses at the start of the season when yous were not playing too badly?

As a Hibby Im happy for Vlad to carry on like this...the players will be certainly not be up for it on Saturday with all this going on. What guarantee do they have that they will be paid if they win?? None.

#17 i wish i did, but I don't agree that this is good news for the Hibs

I'm sure Hearts won their game last year after being unpaid.

I remember that (until last weekend's fixtures) the only win Pompey had recorded all season was the fixture immediately AFTER they hadn't been paid (it was away at Wolves)

The trouble with this stuff is it can bond a dressing room, or break it.

Mind you, with Michael Stewart and Zaliukas in there, (both nominally their captains snort snort!) we might just hope that their spirits will be broken rather than bound by this madcap measure

you seriously believe this is a non-story rakes up by the "Hibsman"??

People haven't been paid and your captain (on the few weekends where he is not suspended from action) is quoted as having spoken to your glorious leader about it, in a meeting that I think we can be certain took place last week!

You are taking the Ostrich mentality to murky depths my friends

Guys, Win bonuses are for the games they win, they do not lose the win bonus because they lose or play badly in the next game.

Come on HMFC Pay the players what they are entitled to. Just because we are having a bad time and we don;t like the season so far doesnt mean they should not get their righful monies.

This is just another Vlad money ploy and not a motivational thing.

No concern here it just Romanov keeping his cash until the last possible, they won't be owed that much anyway, we've not won to many games.

Although its derby weekend so another win bonus coming the players way this weekend, we always beat the wee team.

#17 - We will be well up for it on Saturday, will your misfits and Falkirk rejects be up for it, can they handle the white hot tynie atmosphere?

In any event a derby is a derby and I'm sure that the red hot cauldron in the PBS will add fuel to a fire that is already burning.

Both teams will go for it, a spot of slice and dice.

*Update*

Due to the reluctance of Vladimov Rippenhoff to pay the Hearts a bonus, the SPL have sanctioned a deal with Masks'R'US to provide the Hearts players, fans and employees with replacement masks.

Local employee, Jakey Daniels confirmed, "I think what Vlad has done is terrible - I mean those masks are expensive, everyone who plays for Hearts has to have at least two masks and the bonuses paid for any enternal work done on them. I know of one player who has a specially crafted mask, beautifully painted and shaped to fit his long face - and the paint work is amazing. I have never seen such a life-like painting of Stevie Fulton, and due to the fright I got - I never want to see it again either. The wife will kill me when she sees what has happened to my white chino's.

Saturns New Ring 03/11/2009 13:43:51
Quite right Mr. Romanov - agree with #9, if contracts do not stipulate when bonus are due to be paid I dont see the problem here. I reckon all Hearts players should be paid on a performance related basis anyway - we'd save a fortune at the moment.

Lets just stop and consider a couple of things, before everyone gets too carried away...
We all know it's been a long time since Hibs did anything in a competition that mattered, and they are probably feeling quite entitled to come on here gloating and poking fun.....
However, I don't see any prizes getting handed out this early in the season.... the earliest one is the League Cup (the wee cup), and actually Hearts are one of only 4 teams who can win that.
I dont think either of the OF have crowned themselves champions just yet, so it's a bit early for the wee team to be crowing about being NEAR the top of the league.
As for the remaining trophy, well, as it's now 109 YEARS since they had their hands on it, it doesn't seem likely any time soon that that record will change.
So, take a dose of reality, speculate all you like about Vlad, Hearts, Csaba, Stewart, Cala, flats etc etc, but until you actually win something that matters, you will continue to be the wee team in Edinburgh.
109, we all know it hurts you.......

Typical smart-ar*sed retort from Romanov.

The only question here is whether the bonus payments are due, or not due.

If they are discretionary, then Romanov's ill-mannered response might be justified on that level at least.

If win bonuses ARE due, then Romanov will surely be in breach of contract if he witholds the monies and the players should take appropriate action.

Regardless of what the truth is, one thing is for sure: this is another example of Romanov's shocking inability to handle any sort of challenge in a constructive manner.

Close the door on yer way out, Csaba...
