ANGLO-SCOT Andy Thomson broke the ice as the first seed to play in the second round of the Potters Holidays world singles championships at Norfolk and became the first player to earn his place in the last 16.
Thomson, seeded 8, beat Spalding's Graham Smith in straight sets 12-6, 9-7 but will have to wait until Saturday before knowing if his opponent will be his world pairs partner Ian Bond or English qualifier Steve Tuohy.
No.5 seed Paul Foster doubles the East Lothian interest, and found out that his second-round opponent on Thursday will be Kiwi Denis Leeden, who was taken all the way to a surprise tie-break decider before overcoming Hong Kong's Li Ming Sum 2-10, 10-5, 2-1.
Yesterday, Jamie Hill fired down a trade-mark power shot which struck the jack full on, causing the yellow jack to split into two pieces which disappeared off the rink in opposite directions! But fellow New Zealander Brian Cathro won the match 7-7, 9-4.
