LINLITHGOW ROSE look to have failed in an ambitious bid to sign former Kilmarnock and Airdrie United striker Jerome Vareille.
The Frenchman, who turned 34 last month, is a free agent after being released by Ayr United at the end of last season and held talks with the Junior outfit recently.
The Evening News understands that Vareille, who has several seasons of SPL experi
ence, was impressed by the facilities on offer at Prestonfield, but that Rose refused to meet his financial demands which would have seen him paid almost double what the club's current top earner makes.
Rose are looking to bolster their attack in time for the new season with Gordon Herd currently out injured and Brian Carrigan on trial at Hamilton. Robbie Feeney has joined Armadale Thistle.
"We spoke about Jerome coming to the club, but, unfortunately, it hasn't gone anywhere," said Linlithgow boss Brian Fairley
"Basically it boiled down to the fact that we couldn't afford to meet his demands although I know he was impressed by the set-up we had. I have not spoken to Jerome for a wee while and I'm not sure what it is he wants to do now.
"The last I heard he had gone back to France, but it shows the ambition we have that we are speaking to these players."
