Riordan injury doubt for Hibs

DEREK RIORDAN will be wrapped up in cotton wool this week as he bids to shake off a niggling groin injury in time to face Dundee United at Easter Road this weekend.
The striker is in line for his debut second time around when Hibs resume their SPL campaign with a home game against Craig Levein's side on Saturday.

Riordan revealed last week that he can't wait to step out in front of the Hibs supporters again, having spent a miserable two seasons working with Gordon Strachan at Parkhead where he made just 11 appearances in all competitions for Celtic last campaign.

Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen admitted that he is excited by the prospect of Riordan linking up with the likes of Steven Fletcher and Colin Nish, but insisted today he won't rush the striker back until he is 100 per cent certain he is fully fit.

Paatelainen said: "Derek has got a little niggle with his groin which we need to work on this week.

"He had it when he arrived at the club and we don't think that it is too serious, but obviously we don't want to risk making it worse by playing him too soon.

"We have got to remember that he has not played too much football over the last couple of years really so we know that we will have to work on his match fitness."

Supporters have hailed his return and hundreds turned out at Easter Road to see Riordan paraded at a press conference last week after agreeing a three-year deal to make the switch back from Parkhead.

However Paatelainen insisted that the 25-year-old striker has a strong enough character to take the high expectations in his stride, adding: "It is understandable because he did so well when he was at the club the last time. Everyone expects so much from him and straight away – and Derek probably expects so much from himself as well, that is just the type of player that he is.

"He is the type of person who can cope with that kind of pressure."

Meanwhile, Paatelainen was delighted with Steven Fletcher's call-up to the full Scotland squad for the World Cup qualifier against Iceland. The Hibs striker had been part of the under-21s squad for tomorrow night's vital European Championship qualifying match against Denmark – the final game of their group.

However, having seen his senior side lose out to Macedonia in the opening game of their World Cup campaign, George Burley has given Fletch the nod to make the move back into the full squad.

And Paatelainen added: "It is great for Steven and thoroughly deserved. I am not surprised that he has been called up, I watched him play the other night and I thought that he did so well."

About time Fletcher got into the first team as he is by far a better player than the two donkeys we have up front at the moment, If he had been playing for one of the "west coast unwashed" he would have been an automatic inclusion. GL fletcher (only for the scotland games)

Can't believe he never signed for hearts given that he is crocked, he would have fitted in well with our treatment room forward line.

FWIW

I hope that fletcher can do the business this week, even if to prove that you don't have to be with the ugly sisters to do a service for your country.

Mind you, if he scores a hat-trick, one of the OF will buy him in January.

He could walk out on the park every week wearing a stookie on his leg and still score more goals than your top two goal scorers over the season.

As for Fletcher, George, if you are going to use him do us all a favour, do him justice and give him at least 15 - 20 minutes, not the usual 5 minutes to save our campaign.

This injury was reported by one of the Hibs posters last week.Hibs are now letting you know this because they have sold all the tickets for the United game.Good bit of rip off, Vlad would be very proud of them.
Dont know if Fletcher will start but defo worth an hour if the present goal machines dont do it.Time for Berra and the other fringe players to get a chance. He cant put to many in at one time but the boy Commoms should start on Wed.

Actually, based on your own opinion of yourself, I would say that you are overrated. Or should that be overeighty?

Last night you were going to pay £2.5 million for Fletcher so is your statement that he is overrated based on the 'let him go' fee of around £5.0 million?

Once you actually attend some games and see the overall performance of players, that would be the time to comment. I was at the Scotland under 21 game and Fletcher was outstanding. But he is just 21 and still developing. Unlike Chris Boyd for example who appears just to have developed a large backside lately.

No need to do that (change your name to thediddy).

That would be stting the obvious and you are not know for that, are you?

Rangers had a right full back who was not worth £9.0 million - FACT. But they got it and well done to them. Now lets go a bit further back and look at the case of a certain blundering French centre half who was definately not worth what Newcastle paid for him. This was indeed a FACT when they got shot of him a couple of years later for a fraction of what they paid.

So be reasonable. What a player is worth is ALWAYS only an opinion - not a FACT.

Will watch out for you posting in the future under the name 'thediddy'. Maybe you could overwrite your 'bring them on' handle?

You are talking rubbish mate re Hibs defence. Last season Hibs had the best defensive record outwith the OF and conceded 10 less league goals than Hearts. Already this season Hearts have conceded more league goals than Hibs and I'm sure that will be the case at the end of the season.

If Hibs have a dodgy defence/keeper then the rest of the SPL (outwith the OF) is even dodgier.

I would take our defence and any one of our keepers over your lot.

It's a circus back their. You need to score at least 2 to win a game coz your keeper is guarenteed to give one away. Shambles.

Your signing of Bamba has just made it worse!

Dundee Utd have not won a league game this season, they have lost to Hamilton & Killie and drawn with Celtic & Motherwell so tell me how they have improved.

They have also lost Hunt who was one of their top scorers last season. Can't really see them being better than last season when they also had Robson up until January.

Hibs will be lifted by the return of Riordan and Fletcher is going to score soon so fairly confident Hibs will get a result this weekend.

A good friend of mine is a Pars ST holder and his opinion of Bamba was he was a big, big favourite at East End Park.

He said

The only reason he was not playing regularly was that he was not in favour with MacIntyre who was a p rick for not playing him.

He can play anywhere along the back four and is a two-footed player. With a regular game he will come into his own. He likes to go forward at corners and set pieces. He added he will be a really good addition and thought that Hibs signed him for peanuts.

I'm optimistic about Bamba and will reserve judgement until I have seen him play a few games for Hibs.

Unlike some idiots on this board.

So Hibs have lost one less goal than Hearts, but have Hibs played any decent forward line yet? or any of the OF. I would also add that GD is +1 to Hearts and -1 to Hibs, and thats a Hearts team without a decent striker yet.

To be honest i dont care if we lose 10 goals every game as long as we score 11 at the other end. winning games are what matters.

Some garbage players have signed for other teams and done well. One of the best examples of this was Hartley Hibs dumped him he was pants at St Johnstone, came to Hearts and within a couple seasons was a great player. Mainly though because he had been played out of position at Hibs and St Johnstone, but a good manager could have saw that.

I see you have taken to boring the backside off of Hibs fans now.

Fletcher still has 4 or 5 years left when he is sold which i would think would probably be next year. Hibs will get 4million+ for him, based on he will most likely be in the full Scotland set up by then (IMO he should be given a chance soon) and also his length of contract which is still remaining.

TBH Pundit if you cannot hold a reasoned well balanced debate at any point without constantly comparing everything to Rangers then why do you actually bother coming on here. Your spectacularly wrong yet again.

Our dislike has nothing to do with thophies won, but is to do with the vile sectarian nonsense that comes with both the OF and the vile city which is a complete dump. As already pointed out, highest crime figures per head of population in the country, highest unemployment or incapacity benefit claiments per head of population, Highest rate of heart disease in Europe. Highest level of families living in what is described as poverty per head of population in the country. Weegland has nothing going for it.

99# - Most Hibs Fans Are PROBABLY wondering - IF IT IS SAFE TO REGISTER ????

Have You SAFE Measures to prevent "VIRUS" or "CLONING"

Definately names cannot be clones, and anyone found trying to do so by copying names with slight variations with the sole purpose of pretending to be someone else can and will be banned. Anything added on the site for download is checked, and the site is ad free so no possibilities of adawate or spyware being added. Its paid hosting.

Its on a 3 month trial, after that if the site proves popular then i will go ahead and pay for the hosting and order a domain name for the site. So ive not actually paid anything for it yet. But because its a trial for paid hosting there is still no adverts or pop ups etc and adaware and spyware free.

At least you answered my question about delusions of grandeur.

I reckon you missed out wrestling on your list. Your inane postings would imply you're a fan of that particular childish pursuit.
