ONE of the most beautiful fisheries in the central belt, North Third has just about everything, writes STUART FRASER.
Having not been to the fishery for quite some time and the thought of having to drag an outboard up cardiac hill at the end of the session was more than I could bear. However, it was a pleasant surprise to see the new car park sited down on the jetty
.
Local anglers were out in force and we got an insight into how it had been fishing. We headed over the back of the island and within minutes rods were bending all around us. We were warned beforehand that there was some tough weed close to the bank and, if caught, it would be the end of our tackle. So we stuck to floating and midge tip lines and kept the flies moving.
My boat partner and I stuck to White Cats and Cormorants, which duly obliged but black lures stripped above the weed was the top tactic. The fish were in excellent condition and scrapped really well, especially around the reed area.
Fish of various sizes were being landed up to double figures and several anglers attained their limit.
Despite only getting four fish, the scenery was breathtaking and it was worth it for the view alone. I would say that the boat anglers fared slightly better than the bank but only just. Definitely a must visit for any angler as it is value for money in a glorious setting.
