MIXU PAATELAINEN has urged his under-fire Hibs stars to use tomorrow's clash with English Premier League outfit Middlesbrough to silence their critics.

The Easter Road boss and his players have come under fierce attack following a miserable run of pre-season results culminating in a 3-0 defeat by First Division Clyde.

But while admitting he'd expected more from his side, Paatelainen has resolutely insisted everything will fall into place before the opening game of the season even if it is just eight days away.

Before then, Paatelainen has the visits of Middlesbrough tomorrow and Wigan Athletic on Tuesday to get things right and he believes the arrival of Gareth Southgate's side tomorrow can bring out the best in his faltering stars.

He said: "It's a fantastic opportunity to play against a very good side which will play football in the correct manner. It's a test for us, no question about it, and we need to play well if we want to win the game.

"But it is also a good chance for the players to show there is light at the end of the tunnel. We haven't done well and, as I said after the Clyde game, I expected more. Obviously, we are not there yet and my expectation was wrong.

"However, it is my job as manager to make sure that when the season starts we play well. So far it has not happened. We are not playing as a team but I am sure it will come because all the elements are there.

"We haven't played for any points yet and the aim is to be ready for when it really matters. If someone was to tell me that overnight we have become such a bad team I wouldn't believe it.

"At the moment the players need to relax a little bit, focus totally on the game and it will come, of that I have no doubt."

Asked if he believed the fact his players would now be at home facing formidable opposition rather than lower-league sides on their grounds would help concentrate both minds and effort, Paatelainen said: "That should not be the case.

"I would like to think our boys are so professional that whoever and wherever they are playing they would do it.

"Tomorrow I want to see a bunch of players out there who really want to play together, who want to play for the club and want to do absolutely everything to win the game."

Paatelainen is, naturally, conscious of the anxiety which has been growing among some Hibs fans, but today he implored them to stand behind his players.

"Whenever we play we need our supporters, it's why they are called supporters," he said.

"I hope they see a very, very determined side playing and that they'll support the players."

Paatelainen has still to decide whether midfielder Joe Keenan, who missed the trip to Broadwood with a "tight" groin, will feature tomorrow but fellow new signing Steven Thicot is likely to make his home debut.

Uruguayan star Fabian Yantorno is also in the squad but, having already turned out twice as a trialist, the midfielder can play only once more as such under SFA rules and Paatelainen admitted he'd like to see him go through an entire 90 minutes, something he is not capable of doing at present.

He said: "It's something to think about, Fabian is not ready to play 90 but we can, of course, arrange some closed doors matches to get him more game time."

Three dubious Bosman`s and a `cripple` maybe ...... doesn`t raise the spirit any does it? I`ve written to the Board today questioning what`s happening at Hibernian and I received a nice political answer that states that the board is "fully committed to supporting the Manager". If Yantorno don`t make it what`s plan B? He`s only being considered because he was in a situation that suited the purse strings, give him rehab and if he cuts it, we have a player for nowt! I like the wee guy, he always impressed for Gretna, but the fact remains he and the other signings were not identified as the quality we need, they are category signings, Bosman`s that cost nowt and will accept Hibs wages. Where is this gonna take the club? Answers on a postage stamp. As far as the Board are concerned ..... the least said.

Mixu, you talk the talk but don't walk the walk. We heard all this guff when we got in to the top 6 and what happened, no wins and 2 points from 15.

Sorry to say but you increasingly anxious look out of your depth. Problem for us loyal fans is Petrie won't sack you and you aren't going to quit...

6. A bad thing according to the responses I received when he was rumoured to be going to Falkirk on Tuesday.

"if hes not good enough for aberdeen...hes too injury prone..."

We'll see a change of opinion if he does sign, in my book a decent SPL striker.

#6 Id be quite happy if we could get him because Fletcher and Nish pose absolutely no physical threat and to be fair so far pre-season neither has been a goal threat either. Granted I would love to have a fit Benji playing but quite frankly I dont see that happening.

#9 Rankin started off very well in his first few games, but far too often seems to disappear right out of a match which was Kerr's problem far too often (actually Kerr was never seen for the majority of the matches he was on the park for).

I would have Lewis Stevenson in Rankin's postition on left of midfield as the young guy puts in a right good shift and even when things are going wrong he DOESNT hide like so many of the so called senior pro's.

The likes of Rankin could be on a shoogly peg at ER along with the likes of Captain Calamity Jones. He would head my list of people to exit ER.

I wouldn't be so quick to criticise Mixu.
A wee birdie tells me Mixu tried to sign up Niemi as keeper/coach for £4000 per week, but alas, was refused.
Still, could be just a rumour.

Think criticising mixu is a bit over the score.

Its the players that have been performing badly and think shows a lot of bottle to come and say stuff, which, at the end of the day, a lot of hibbies would agree with even if it is a little contraversial.

Think Lovell would be a good signing if he is fit and raring to go. Would be a good foil for fletch and would make both fletch and nish know that they have some competition and make them step it up a bit.

Are they preparing for benji moving on ?

I know we have scored no goals (at all) but the problem isnt really up front. We allknow Fletch is a class finisher, and although I am not a Nish fan, I hjave to say he gets his share of goals.

The problem as everyone who watched last year knows is the midfield. aside from Zemamma we have got nothing creative in there. ( the fact that none of them can tackle either rather suggests they are notr midfield players at all )

We played 5 across the middle when we had 5/6/7 class acts to choose from. How on earth Mixu thought we can play 4 with the dross available is beyond me was always beyond me and it accounts from the jambohoofball we have been playing. I went off mixu pretty qwuickly.. shame really

APPARENTLY, THIS IS THE KEEPER INTERESTING HIBS

Khalid Sinouh (born 2 May 1975 in Amsterdam) is a Moroccan-Dutch professional football goalkeeper who plays for Kasimpasa S.K.. He previously played for AZ Alkmaar, RKC Waalwijk and Omonia Nicosia. He has been capped for the Moroccan national team.

[edit] Biography
He debuted playing for HFC Haarlem in the second highest level of the Netherlands at the age of 19 in the 1994/95 season. After three seasons playing for Haarlem Sinouh, he signed for Eerste divisie club, SC Heerenveen in 1997, however not successful since he played in only one match in a year and a half. RKC Waalwijk became Sinouh's new club in the middle of 1998-99 season. The Morrocan keeper got tired of being the second keeper of the team behind the experienced Rob van Dijk and for two seasons he had no appearances. After years on the bench, he played again in the season 2000/2001 having three appearances.

The two seasons that followed, Sinouh took his chance by proving that he could be a trustworthy goalkeeper- as Rob van Dijk was. Between 2001 and 2003, the goalie played 23 matches. After the transfer of Rob van Dijk to PSV in the summer of 2003, it was an easy choice of the club to promote Sinouh to first goalkeeper of the squad. In the season 2003/2004, Sinouh played 33 league matches and the following season 34 and he proved that he was a skillful goalkeeper.

The goalkeeper of the national team of Morocco refused in the summer of 2005 to extend the contract with RKC Waalwijk. Sinouh wanted to play out of the Netherlands and for that reason he rejected offers of NEC Nijmegen and NAC Breda. However he didn't achieve to agree with any club and for six months he was unemployed. At the beginning of 2006, he agreed with one of the best teams of Cyprus, Omonia Nicosia and played in 11 matches. However due to a bad game he had in his last appearance with his team, he was not used again until the end of the season where he finished his career

Disnet target Mickey Mouse has returned to Scotland to consider his options, opening the door for Hibernian to swoop for his services.

The 80-year-old striker was released by Disney Utd at the end of last season and recently ended a trial period with Donald Duck FC.

Hibs manager Mixu Paatelainen is hopeful Mouse will join the club this summer after he impressed during his time with the club in Cowdenbeath.

"Mickey had a great three days with us, getting to know the squad and it was a good opportunity for us to assess him at close quarters," Paatelainen told the club's official website.

ANOTHER KEEPER HIBS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ASSESSING (source is Daily Express)

Matt Pickens (born April 5, 1982 in Washington, Missouri) is an American football (soccer) player, who most recently played as a squad goalkeeper at QPR.

Pickens played college soccer for Southwest Missouri State University from 2000 to 2003, as well as playing for the Chicago Fire Reserves.

Upon graduating, Pickens was drafted 19th overall in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft by the Fire. He was not able, however, to break through a deep lineup of Fire goalkeepers, which initially included Henry Ring and D.J. Countess, and later Zach Thornton. He was loaned out for much of the year to the A-League Virginia Beach Mariners, where he played 290 minutes, conceding only 3 goals.

During the latter half of 2006, after an injury to Zach Thornton, Pickens started in goal for the Fire even though Thornton is match fit again. This also includes his first play-off start on October 22, 2006 for the Fire, keeping a clean sheet in a game that the Fire won, 1-0 thanks to a goal from Justin Mapp in the 35th minute. Zach Thornton was traded to the Colorado Rapids on March 2nd, 2007; Pickens has been the Chicago Fire's first choice goalkeeper for the 2007 season. Matt has become a fan favorite and has been nicknamed "Slim Pickens" by the Section 8 supporters group.

On 17 January 2008 it was announced that Pickens was on trial at English Championship side Norwich City. However, Norwich were unable to offer him a first-team place. Interest from other British clubs continued with a short spell training at Preston North End. By the end of January reports circulated that he may join Queens Park Rangers[1].

On 7th February 2008, Pickens signed a deal with QPR until the end of the 2008 season[2]. On 6th May 2008, it was announced that Pickens would not have his contact extended and that he will be released by the club at the end of June.

These names are more likely:

However, Falkirk appear to face competition from SPL rivals Hibernian after boss Mixu Paatelainen hinted at his interest in Lovell.

Paatelainen said in the Daily Record: "There's progress but we'll keep it under wraps for now."

Meanwhile, Hibernian are hopeful of landing Moroccan goalkeeper Khalid Sinouh.

Paatelainen added: "It's still on-going with Khalid."
