SAULIUS MIKOLIUNAS has intimated a desire to leave Hearts next summer to seek fresh challenges for his footballing career.
The Lithuanian winger is currently recuperating in Vilnius after damaging knee ligaments at Love Street last month, but revealed that this season could be his last at Tynecastle.

He has spent almost four years in Edinburgh on loan from FBK Kaunas and came close to joining the Greek club Larissa during the summer. The deal collapsed as a fee could not be agreed with Vladimir Romanov, whose Ukio Bankas Investment Group finances both Kaunas and Hearts.

Mikoliunas said: "The conditions at Hearts are perfect. Edinburgh – wonderful city and the Scots are crazy for football. But I have stayed there four years, therefore I would like something new. Some new challenges."

The player admitted Scottish officialdom has been difficult to tolerate as he feels targeted by referees. "It looks like fans are starting to forget that (penalty] incident against Scotland but referees look at me through a magnifying glass. It is frustrating when you get booked for nothing but I just accept it."

Mikoliunas defended his decision to recover from injury in his homeland as opposed to Edinburgh. "I just think that there are many good doctors in Lithuania," he said. "Lithuanian national team doctors help me, I will have laser and other procedures here in Vilnius. It is more pleasant to heal in Lithuania. I will have more time to be with my parents, family, I will meet my friends. Usually I don't have enough time for this but now I will have."

Hearts confirmed yesterday that players' wages have finally been paid, however the squad are still without bonus payments for recent wins over St Mirren, Hamilton, Inverness, Falkirk and Rangers.

"As announced earlier, players' wages were processed on Friday and the money has reached their accounts this afternoon as agreed," Hearts said in a statement yesterday afternoon.

The club were handed the tie of the round yesterday in the fourth round of the Homecoming Scottish Cup as they were paired with city rivals Hibernian. The draw will mean back-to-back Edinburgh derbies in the first week of January – a league encounter at Tynecastle on January 3 and then the cup tie at Easter Road seven days later.

"We accept the draw and we'll be looking to get into the next round," said Csaba Laszlo, the Hearts manager. "It is a difficult tie, as derby matches always are but we will look forward to it. It is a big week for the teams and hopefully a good one for our fans. A big positive is there is not much travelling involved."

Captain Christophe Berra believes the pressure will fall entirely on Hibs' shoulders for the cup match. "It's funny what fate can do and it's going to be a massive seven days," he said.

"We have the league game at Tynecastle the weekend before so it's incredible to think that the first two matches of the New Year are going to be against Hibs.

"These matches are always one-off encounters but the pressure will be on Hibs as the home team. You have to beat the best teams to win the Scottish Cup and what better way to get into the next round than by beating our local rivals?"

Well, at least once Miko has been hounded out of the country we can sit back and watch the football safe in the knowledge that there will be no diving at all. Ever.

Can't we???

THIS IS GREAT NEWS!!!

At last the lazy little w*nk that caused all the issues with Pressley, Hartley and Gordon is being shipped back East.

I just wonder how he has lasted so long, maybe the rumours of him and Jnr Vlad are true.....!

I think this is for the best and have done for quite some time both for club and player, but I cant help feeling embarrassed as a Scotsman of how this lad has been treated, and we seriously have a go at the English, I'm afraid us Scots aren't as welcoming as we'd like to think we are. Shame.

#4 What a plumb you are. Why would Hibs be confident of beating ANYONE let alone the OF? Celtic will pump you on Sunday because you are awful and i'll put money on Makalamity throwing in a couple!
Our players haven't been paid their win bonuses - at least they've got some to pick up! They'll be paid in time but you keep on clutching at straws in the mean time. Looking forward to a great 8 days in Jan - pumping the wee team twice will be a great way to start the New Year

Does this mean the focus will now fall on Nakamura ?
Surely he will then become the most notorious diver in Scottish football (closely followed by Hobbit Maloney)
Will the GFA have the balls to do to him as they have done to Miko ?????????????????????????????

WILL THEY FVCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Problem with Miko is that he gets too wound up in the bigger games - how many times has been sent off against Rankers & Hibs?

He has got some ability but no-one at Hearts has been able to get the lad to use it correctly.

He deserved his ban for diving but he has been treated very badly by the referees ever since.

When an OF player runs into the box the ref immediately moves his whistle towards his mouth just waiting to award a penalty - they're almost wetting themselves in anticipation.

The opposite applies for Miko (and most other non OF players) where the whistle will signify a dive.

I don't recall any major press / GFA hounding of Celtic when they had more divers than the USA olympic team - Maloney, Sutton, Hartson, Petrov, et al.

How many goals (direct or headed in) do Celtic score from a well delivered, but seldom merited, free-kick.

I feel he`s a bit of a law unto himself. The coach is trying to create a team feeling in the club and I think he`s part of the culture Pressley a co banged on about. He`s a useless player ,don`t forget, and looking at this article I sense a bit of I`ll do what I like.Better off without him.By the way are the team missing him ? No.Enough said.

#24 As opposed to Hibs who have beaten........oh come on, you know the rest.

Season over in 2nd week of January for the balloons from Leith. Can't wait to be singing and dancing up the Albion Road - again.

#26 Again??? Wasn't that meant to have been happening since Vlad arrived. Dream on loser.

On Miko, I doubt we'd even notice. Great on his day but his days are few and far between (but in keeping with that long held tradition, he still manages to take care of the Hibs). Good luck.

Mikko has been a marked man by the Old firm's Referees - they conveniently forget that down the years there has been many an Old Firm player noted for his diving tactics, were they victimised for their crimes? I think you know the answer to that one. The crown for the king of the divers must go to Ranger's Davy Wilson who would begin his run-up to a dive from the half way line to get a penalty.

I reckon he was just starting to come good under Csaba.
The treatment metted out to him by the GFA and the bent refs is nothing short of scandalous.Hang your heads in shame.
Good luck Miko you will be missed.

Miko will not be missed, not because of his consistent diving but for his total lack of interest when the chips were down. I fail to remember a Hearts player will less desire to work for his team. We can get more talented players than Miko who come without the baggage and attitude.

His consistent appearance in the starting 11 despite the less than consistent performances (i.e. crud) continually highlighted that all was not well at Tynecastle. I also expect his petulant attitude contributed to the discontent in the dressing room and general lack of team spirit in the club. As someone else said, his first year was good, after that he has been posted missing.

I, for one will miss Miko if he goes. His treatment has been nothing short of scandalous.
