Whitburn 4 Blackburn United 1 WHITBURN started the game well and enjoyed early pressure which told on 15 minutes when Fraser Gillespie deflected a Chris Dolan cross into his own net. The lead was doubled when Colin Strickland headed home a Kenny Hannah cross. Just before half-time, a Fraser Gillespie shot went in off the post. Whitburn added two more in the second half. The third followed a great passing move up the right which culminated in another Hannah cross which Andy Doig met at the far post and blasted home. On the hour, David Murphy fired home an effort that had rebounded off the keeper.

The Premier League side took control from the first whistle but it took them 44 minutes to open their account having scorned several decent chances. Paddy Flannery turned in a right-wing cross from Graeme McCaul. Ross Hamilton headed a second on the stroke of half-time. Flannery then added a third on 47 minutes to finish the game as a contest as Rose coasted home. Sub John Laidlaw completed the scoring with his first touch with ten minutes remaining.

The visitors came close twice in the first half through Chilton while Edinburgh's sole effort at goal came in 38 minutes. The second half was much livelier with Broxburn hungry for goals. Their first came after substitute Dickov raced clear but saw his effort crash off the far post with the alert Chilton on hand to fire home. Chilton got his second from the penalty spot with ten minutes to go when he raced round the keeper only for the stopper bring him down in the box. Edinburgh came close on 87 minutes when Gibson cleared off the line from MacIntosh.

Arniston Rangers 3 Tranent 0TRANENT took the game to Arniston from the start and it was an uncomfortable first half for the home side. After the break, Arniston stepped up a gear and had the game won with a three-goal blast midway through the half. Mark Stevenson scored with a header followed quickly by another header, this time from Calvin Shand. Three minutes later, Wayne McIntosh went on an individual run before firing the ball home. Tranent had Graeme Gray sent off late on in the game.

The result was never in doubt after Grant Meaney gave Star the lead in five minutes when he controlled the ball in the box before firing home. Early in the second half, they finished the game off when Scott McCulloch ran on to a lob from Meaney to slide the ball into the net. Dunbar had a penalty which could see them back into the game, but Paul Hampshire missed with ten minutes left.
