EAST LOTHIAN’S Mark Johnston shook off an indifferent start to set up a World Indoor Bowls Council Singles Championship quarter-final against defending champ Darren Burnett, of Arbroath.
After losing to Canada’s Steve Santana, Johnston dropped the opening set against British champion Jonathan Ross but hit back to claim a 3-9, 9-3, 2-1 tie-break win. An 8-4, 6-5 win over Israel’s Colin Silberstein put him back in contention and when Ross beat Santana, Johnston had qualified.
