APPRENTICE Jamie Moriarty is enjoying a great year and has several fancied mounts at Musselburgh tomorrow evening.
The young Irishman has booted home 26 winners so far this term and, although he has yet to strike on the East Lothian track this season, he looks all set to land a double tomorrow.

Half-a-dozen of his winners have come for trainer Paul Midgley – h
imself enjoying a best-ever year – and they can combine to collect with both Dimashq and Dispol Kylie. The former was an impressive winner at the last meeting here when taking an amateur riders event by an easy five lengths and he can follow up in the opening Scottish Racing Apprentice Handicap (6.10pm).

The handicapper has raised him 7lb for that recent success and the six-year-old tackles an extra furlong this time, but has won over two miles in the past so there should be no doubting his stamina.

Dispol Kylie cost just 6500 guineas but has proved a real bargain, winning three of her five races so far and can defy top weight in the First Transpennine Express Nursery (6.40pm).

Moriarty has partnered her to victory twice – on her debut at Doncaster in April and they followed up at Thirsk the following month. The combination then finished last at York's big spring meeting but they were far from disgraced in that Listed event.

The youngster again ran well for a long way before finishing last of six runners in a valuable conditions event over this course and distance in June and then regained winning form in good style at Thirsk recently.

She is set to concede 6lb to Majuba but Moriarty will claim a handy 3lb allowance and that can swing things in her favour. The recent rain means the going will be soft tomorrow, but the juvenile has already shown she can cope with the mud and has a plumb draw next to the stands rails.

Glasgow trainer Jim Goldie has an excellent record here and can team up with Scots-born jockey Danny Tudhope to land a double, beginning with Grand Diamond in the Kwik-Fit Group Handicap (7.10pm).

Both of his career victories have come on the seaside circuit – over a mile last year and over a furlong shorter last month and he can defy top weight tomorrow.

Goldie and Tudhope can also take the concluding Glorious Twelfth Handicap (8.40pm) with Willyn. The gelding's only victory so far came over seven furlongs at Thirsk almost exactly a year ago and has shown signs of recapturing that form by finishing second in his last two races.

The three-year-old emerged as runner-up over ten furlongs at Ayr and then finished second over seven furlongs at the last meeting here. He tackles that trip again and looks set to go one better.

Musselburgh selections: 6.10 Dimashq; 6.40 Dispol Kylie; 7.10 Grand Diamond; 8.40 Willyn.
