NIKLAS HAGMAN scored a hat-trick as the Toronto Maple Leafs secured their first win of the NHL ice hockey season, 6-3, at the Anaheim Ducks.
Roman Hamrlik scored in overtime to hand the Montreal Canadiens their fourth consecutive as they beat the New York Islanders 3-2.

Jeff Tambellini had forced overtime with his second power-play goal late in the third period after Jaroslav Spacek and Travis Moen were both on target for the Canadiens.

Marian Gaborik scored twice as the New York Rangers snapped a three-game losing run with a 5-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes at Madison Square Garden.

The hosts put the game beyond doubt when they quickly raced into a 4-0 lead. Artem Anisimov got things moving in the third minute before Gabronik scored twice on powerplays while also setting up Vinny Prospal.

Minnesota Wild's extended their losing run on the road to eight games as they slumped 3-1 at the Chicago Blackhawks.

Dave Bolland, Troy Brouwer and Patrick Kane netted a goal apiece for the Blackhawks.
