Published Date: 26 November 2008
CSABA LASZLO revealed today that Hearts have mapped out their intentions for the January transfer window and will be looking to reinforce their forward line with a new striker.
The Evening News revealed yesterday that Mike Tullberg, the on-loan Danish forward, has suffered a setback in his attempts to overcome a torn thigh muscle, and this morning the club were awaiting scan results to determine whether Jamie Mole has broken a foot.

Laszlo has consulted Vladimir Romanov, Hearts' majority shareholder, and sport director Anatoli Korobochka to formulate plans to compensate for the lack of striking options.

He said he would also like to improve other areas of the team but, with Christian Nade his only in-form forward, will begin a recruitment drive when thetransfer window opens. Laszlo said: "We have a plan for January but it's too early to talk about it in detail.

"I always have a connection with Mr Romanov. I think we maybe have some problems in two or three positions but we must look at the striker position.

"We will look to the future, for young players who can benefit the team for many years.

"We have many good young players at the moment and they are slowly improving."

Laszlo also reiterated that Hearts will negotiate outgoing transfers as well as any incomings when the window re-opens in January.

"Maybe somebody would like to take players from us and, if a player wants to leave, business goes on," he continued.

"We would like to bring players and sell but we don't want to sell and damage the team."

Mole was taken to hospital yesterday after injuring his foot in training, and Hearts are hopeful that an X-ray does not reveal any fracture.

"Jamie took a blow to his foot so we will see what the scans say," continued Laszlo.

"We are obviously hoping there is nothing more than the bruising but he is sore so we will have to wait and see what the results of the x-rays are."

Meanwhile, Hearts reserves lost 1-0 to their St Mirren counterparts at Love Street yesterday.

Former Tynecastle striker Jim Hamilton scored the game's only goal.

#3 Shouldn't just be hibbies that have a field day. John Borthwick is been nothing but a pompous windbag. Nothing that has ever come out of him as "fans chief" has EVER mirrored my views as a fan. The Willie Bauld trust should still have had him charged regardless of the fact he paid the money back. He presumably only paid it back because he got rumbled - plain and simple!

I only hope he is under an NHS auditing microscope right now!

A new striker would be very nice, andlooking for a young striker is a positive move but we already have young strikers at the club in the form of Glen and Templeton. I hope these two get a chance now that Mole is out injured.

John Borthwick has never spoken out for the Hearts fans IMO and this is good news that he is rumbled and no longer in a position to sit on the board. He can also count himself very lucky to be let off that lightly.

It is only a rumour at the moment and not 100% true.

If it is true he needs strung up by the baws, stealing is bad enough...multiply that by a million when its from a charity.

Good. A new striker. We need one (or two) of them. This one up front thing isn't a goer as far as I'm concerned.

And as for Borthwick: Stealing from a charity. It doesn't get any lower. Unless he used his wad of stolen notes to beat a puppy to death...

But I think the Sky team got it right when they said that Maybe Celtic can not compete with the Barcelona's and Milans but they should be able to compete with teams like Aalborg, poor overall.

#13 spot on. We have good young strikers but they don't get a chance. What we need is an experienced, proven goalscorer. The days of being linked with players like Kenny Miller are long gone though and it's easy to read between the lines of this article to interpret as follows:

Laszlo: "we badly need investment in the squad, particularly a top stiker"
Vlad via Bothcup: "You can have one player, provided he is young and costs nothing. Oh, and he will come on loan from Kaunus.
Laszlo: "great boss, thanks".

As others have said, another striker is needed but it would be even better to play two stikers. We have a couple of youngsters now but in home games against Falkirk, Hamilton etc they don't even get 5 minutes.

I would like to see Hearts sign Steven Naismith and Scott Severin. Not saying it will happen but there is some logic.

Nasimith is about Rangers 7th choice striker so may fancy a move to get some games and if Rangers are as skint as suspicions suggest then they may fancy grabbing a £1m deal if offered. Plus we tried to get Naismith before so if Vlad was happy to bid before maybe this time as well? Finnaly he would fit perfectly behind our target striker meaning Bruno could drop back into midfield. he would score goals and excite the fans - perfect!

I would go for Severin, his contract runs out in the summer and he can play either centre back or defensive centre mid positions where we need more competetion and more fight. If he played midfield Kari could drop to centre back and Zaluikas could be dropped entirely.

I would get rid of Kingston, Makela and Palazuelos to fund their wages and hopefuly pay some of the transfer fee required to get these two players.
43

Pistol Pete,

26/11/2008 13:49:20
I did now even realise that Naismith was at Rangers, just that his career has ripped away from him, same as what happened to Gow and Riordan where cash rules.

Off track but - The Sheridan guy up front for Celtic I guess must be better than Riordan - right? Does not look like it.

Hearts should go for, perhaps McCormack, someone higher profile as anything less say's a lot about your clubs future plans with Vlad. Time to test the water.

46

Addie,

#42 Nice thought but I dont Naismith would want to come to Hearts. He is recovering from a long term injury at the moment so thats why he doesnt feature for Rangers. Sevrin is an option but we have loads of midfileders at the club as it is. Would like to see another centre back come to the club to partner Berra instead of Zally and another striker.

keep up with life in the SPL. Talk of getting Steven Naismith is ridiculous. Why is he Gers' "7th choice striker"? Er...he's been out injured since APRIL with cruciate ligament damage. He's just started back training and might be back in the squad in a couple of months. NEXT season, I expect to see him line up beside the country's number one scorer, Kris Boyd. At least you had the brains to recognise that Naismith is a quality player. For me, he is the most natural goalscorer in the country - after Boyd. What a combination Gers will have next season!

A reasonable shout - as long as we get Craig Levein to buy him first then sell him on to Hearts at a 20% automatic profit. Sounds devious and ungentlemanly but OOPS wasn't that the type of way that the sneaky masonic wretches got Velicka in the first place ?
(Re-buying him from an ex player as the original selling club would not do business).

Velicka (having lost a stone in weight first as he is at present a real fatso at Rangers)would do well with an on form Nade - but we don't play two up front anymore I'm afraid.
That's why we cannot play Glen or Templeton as sole lone striker. One up front needs strength as well as guile. Those two are not of a strong nature/build.

As far as Jim Hamilton to come back ..........we should be looking at better.
For those that say we should be buying and not taking players on loan - Two points -
1. Vlad now waits to see if the man will be a real trier and gain confirmation that he is a good player first. Examples Beslija, Penilla etc.(though surely Vlad should have done extensive homework first)
2. Vlad also waits to see if a player that may be genuinely unlucky might be prone to injuries.Example Tullberg - many on here have damned the guy but this is one player that I reckon has so far been unlucky.

Either way it gives Vlad a chance to jetison them rather than take a large loss on a large original outlay. It worked with Rudi Skacel and Roman Bednar.
Have the clause where you can sign at a set price - Only if you are happy with "the goods" once proven.

Before we all go down the same road as EVERY transfer window that opens - Hearts do NOT sign players from other Scottish clubs anymore - at least not often.

Rumours or hopes should not ever inlude the players that Vlad might buy as mentioned in previous posts. The last two windows have proven this. People wasting time on here talking about these targets need a couple of extra strong Belgian beers to get a reality check.

Possibly MORE important is who is leaving as this has been mentioned by Casbah a number of times now.Make no bones about it - at least three squad players will leave with two of those being first teamers.
Which ones ....Casbahs doing the ground work as a peparatory measure for the fans - Kingston is a near cert with Karapidis a reasonable bet to follow. Who else ? Maybe Makela if we put him in a lucky bag.Andy Driver after that goal will have gone on a few other teams shopping lists.

#54 Spoilsport - part of the fun of being a football fan is discussing who could improve your team. Always has been, always will be.

In any case, Hearts have tried to sign players from Scottish clubs - there is no doubt we tried to get Naismith, Stephen Hughes, Gow and Riorden. We wanted the latter two on loan, with Gow willing to come. However, generally SPL clubs don't loan players out to rival clubs. We also very, very nearly got McGhee as manager, and there's no doubt he would have signed SPL players.

So I don't think it's true there is a policy not to sign SPL players. We just haven't had the managerial stability, or offered the right transfer fees, to get them. Because we can, or could, pay decent wages, players will come here if the price is right and the team is showing more stability. Even more so, if we can hold onto third and get into Europe.

#51 so why is tullberg "unlucky" and beslija not?? to me they are in exactly the same boat and there is no difference.

tullberg played a game pre season and got injured. on recovering from that injury...injured again...gets a game...injured....trains....injured.

this is exactly the same scenario as beslija and think he should be sent back (if we can) asap and just cut our losses.

whatever happened to hleb?? he was pretty much getting the 9 jersey and then nothing. no idea if he is any good but if he can stay clear of injury must be a good shout.

andy kirk in the short term is banging the goals in. would sign him before hammy. although those two or any other resigning like seve etc would be last resort or stop gaps. we need to move forward and resigning guys who used to do a job isnt the way to go.

The striker that the club in january will sign will be one of three things ,clum coming back ,a lith , or an african ,or any combination of , so lets end the speculation here and now and remember how developments in the transfer market have went this summer, 1 pole hardly plays due to injury, 2 a dane hardly plays due to injury ,3 an african hardly plays due to injury and when does is hardly inspiring, and a couple of keepers who could give henry smith a run in flapping at crosses' so come oan jambos lets keep our feet on the ground here theres gonnae be nae big signings in the forseeable future at tynie to say otherwise is fantasy.

This is slightly off topic but I was wondering what other people think about Michael Stewart - should he return to the team after the Rangers game? In the past I've stuck up for him despite his tendency to lose it and land us up sh@t creek. But, after his sending off against St. Mirren, I've had it with him. I don't think its a coincidence that our best run of form since Burley has been whilst he is out of the side - he's our most indisciplined player, with the possible exception of Miko (also been out the side during the run). The discipline of the whole team has been better in fact and I've often thought his lack of discipline effects the rst of the team and undermines Berra. I don't like saying it but I think its time for him to go.
I also hope we can bring in either another central defender or defensive midfielder so that we can be rid of Zali - he's far from the worst defender but he continues to have lapses in concentration that cost us dear.
Well done to the team for their recent run - an even better achievement when you consider that this could be the least dangerous attack we've had in many years.

The fact is anyone who steals from charity is SCUM

Does not matter whether its hibs or hearts or even peebles rovers - The cops should have been called

Who the fvck is Borthwick ?? I wouldnae want to be in his shoes or seat at 1230 on saturday. In response to #80, The only one in the last few worth responding to.. Read a lot of sense in your post. I said a few weeks ago that stewart needs to cool the beans. Nothing wrong with shouting a bit of encouragement to your team mates, but i noticed mikey at Falkirk and Hamilton away blaming other players for his own mistakes. He was arguing with a few all the way through the games. That must put players off and damage there confidence. Problem is, Berra is captain and says fvck all for 90 minutes. Your right about ZAL. He is honking. We have plenty cover in midfield to put jonson or karipidis in wi Berra. Need a ctr half though, & a Striker (A Fit one) Wouldnae get rid of stewart though. We have a good Captain, but he needs to start kicking ar5e on the park.

#103 Picks up too many yellow cards eh?

McManus - 2 yellow Cards this season
Caldwell - 1 Yellow and 1 Red Card
Berra - 1 Yellow Card

Last Season

McManus - 5 Yellow
Caldwell - 4 Yellow
Berra - 4 Yellow

"Average player"......I like that. I like it when folk who don't watch Hearts suddenly think they're feck1ng experts on Hearts. Being at Tynie every home game I can assure you he's been very good this season. And although last year our team was horse.....he was by far one of our better performers.

Scotland's co-efficient score this season was below that of cyprus and ireland. Last season, scotland had its best run in europe for 25 years, and here we are a few months later at the very bottom of europe.

It's been very hard to take all round. How did this happen ? Someone has already made the point : Celtic were good enough for a point in Spain, we should have beaten Aalborg home and away , and had that happened, we would be sitting on 8 points and poised to go into the last 16.

That we scored 1 point when we were due 7 is unfathomable. Some are dismissing this as a blip, and I tend to agree. T he situation would be the reverse had we been well beaten in Spain, well beaten in Aalborg and fortunate to get the draw at home ...then the alarm bells would be ringing in our ears...so, it is a case of never mind the results, look at the performances.

We did create enough chances to score 7 points in those three vital matches, but our finishing was poor.
There is no manager on earth who can be blamed when it come down to that. Ultimately, if it goes on and on unabated, the manager has to carry the can, but rarely does that happen : if the team continues to carve open chances, they will eventually rediscover the killer touch and draws and defeats soon turn to wins and draws.
