Frail pleased with reserves

HEARTS reserves lost out to a late goal against Rangers at Broadwood Stadium yesterday afternoon.
A last-minute strike from former Falkirk player Alan Gow snatched victory for Rangers against a young Hearts side who more than held their own against their more experienced Ibrox rivals.

Hearts interim head coach Stephen Frail said: "We had an under-17 and under-19 defensive partnership and that certainly bodes well for the future."

And Frail hinted that one or two of the younger players could even make it into the squad for this weekend's crunch SPL clash with Dundee United at Tynecastle, saying: "We might well look at including one from the reserve team this weekend against Dundee United but I don't want to name him as that adds pressure.

"There are certainly one or two capable players coming through, in addition to those we have got in the team so far, so it's one area we can be reasonably positive about."

Might as well include the youngsters they will be able to show more fighting spirit than the first team did last Saturday. Surely Frail cannot keep putting out the same players until the end of the season

We can't get relegated and haven't a hope of securing Europe. In that case we may as well be giving fringe and young players a chance. Try and win, sure enough, but given our position there's no real pressure - ideal situation for these lads. If that happens then possible argument for finishing in the bottom 6 so no games against teams actually playing for something.

Victor! you hard nosed skeptic, surely shaggy wouldn't pull a stroke like that on us...would he?
I'd like to think Screpis is no worse than Mikey Stewart at the moment, and the lad thomson should get a run out.
In fact just keep Banks Berra Larry Eggy & Ruben from last week and use the young guys to fill the gaps.

Its funny how he seems to talk more about the reserves than the first team. Maybe he is getting back in the swing of it for his new role next season as the reserve coach?

In the footage on the Hearts website McGowan looks like the box to box midfielder that we need at the moment. He used to be a centre back but Darren Murray is using him as a midfielder in the U19s and Frail has carried this on in the reserves.

I think we are crying out for some midfielders who carry out the traditional Salvatori / Cameron type partnership. I like Palazuelos and Johnson but they (along with Stewart and Aguiar) don't fit into the old school centre mid roles mentioned before.

I reckon we should give McGowan a chance in centre mid along with Johnson and i would tell Johnson his main job is defensive.

With a box to box midfielder in the middle, Larry on the right and 2 up front i'm sure we would get at least a few shots on goal against United!

If he's happy with them all - then play them all. Can't be much worse than the display from last Sat. We all remember only too well the what the outcome was of the last (two) visits from our visitors this Sat!! I shudder to think.

Surprised Gowser hasn't had the nod from Burley for a Scotland place. With the injuries to the squad so far, I expected a few of the fringe guys from Ibrox to be brought in.

No point having them on bench if you are not going to play them. I believe there must be two under 21s in squad anyway. Well I guess we did use Mole last week. Is that the standard we have dropped to playing a guy who can't get a game for QOS. O forgot QOS still in cup. Mole may be a future prospect but at present not good enough. John McGlynn did say we needed at least one more coach, and I don't think we ever replaced him unless you include Angel, who didn't work any miracles.
