ROSS FISHER is thrilled to lead on the European Tour any time, any place. But it felt extra special going into the third round of the European Open today, writes MARK GARROD.
“You’ve got loads of big superstars playing this week and it gives you a tremendous amount of confidence beating so many of the top boys,” said the 27-year-old Wentworth golfer.
Fisher broke The London Club course record with his opening 63 on Thursday and a closing birdie for a 68 yesterday put him 13 under par and one ahead of Graeme McDowell.
The Northern Irishman would not put himself in the “superstar” category just yet, but third-placed Sergio Garcia is certainly that and the Spaniard’s Ryder Cup team-mates Colin Montgomerie, Paul McGinley and Ian Poulter are in joint fifth spot.
Fisher’s only Tour win came in Holland last August.
