FIFE'S Curtis Cup star Krystle Caithness shot a joint best of tournament three-under-par 70 over the South course and was the best of the Scots at the halfway stage of the Ladies' European Tour pre-qualifying at La Manga in Spain.
Caithness, from St Regulus, birdied the second and ninth in a faultless outward half and added more at the 12th and 13th before dropping her only shot of the day at the 15th.
On four-over-par 148, she was five shots off the lead and in a share of
13th place.
Musselburgh's Vikki Laing was the next best of the tartan contingent on five over par following a 74 over the North course. She was tied for 20th – the top 62 will go through to the final qualifying next week.
With eight Scots in the 104-strong field, Patna's Pamela Feggans and Ellon McDonald's Michele Thomson were the other Scots within the mark with 36 holes to play.
Feggans was on eight over and tied for 41st after a 77, while Thomson, the Curtis Cup player and Scottish Amateur Champion, was sharing 48th on nine over after a much better second round of 74.
Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle) repeated her opening 78 for 12 over par, while Emily Ogilvy (Auchterarder) had an 82 for 16 over and Karyn Burns (Mearns Castle) shot 83 for 23 over. Jocelyn Carthew (Ladybank), who opened with a 90, withdrew.
Four players shared the lead on one under 143 – Paraguay's Julieta Granada (72), Dutch girl Christel Boeljon (74) and the Swedish pair of Anna Nordqvist (71) and Maria Ringdahl (71).
