ALEX Salmond will today make history by becoming the first SNP First Minister to address the Scottish TUC.
His speech to the STUC congress in Inverness will be followed later in the day by a rival pitch to the union bosses by Labour leader Wendy Alexander.

Finance secretary John Swinney yesterday moved to mollify angry trade unions over the decision to extend the franchise for operating Scotland's trains.

The unions reacted with fury to the announcement during the Easter recess that First ScotRail's deal to run the railways is being extended until 2014.

It was interesting that Brown, the doen of Tory Labour
sited the various Socialist icons, in order to prrove that he knew who they were, still received a very cool reception with some delegates holding up placards protesting at the 10p tax fiasco.
Today watched Alex Salmond receive a better and warmer reception on the lunchtime news, will be intersting to see how the Scotsman/EEN report it tomorrow, no doubt will provide more cover on Wendy Alexander.

No3 Edward..How right you were ..

Yesterday I read somewhere on Mr Salmond's very successful appearance at the STUC conference.

His welcome was muted but during his speach and at the end serious applause. What our First Minister said went down more than well with the delegates at conference .
Now I thought it was either this newspaper the Herald or Evening Times Glasgow edition. It seems deletion has been the order of the day/night.
Most if not all of Mr Salmond's speach was reported unlike the drivel in the Scotsman on another thread..
