SCOTTISH Football Association chief executive David Taylor has admitted some of the names on the shortlist to succeed Berti Vogts might not want the job.
With the German having resigned as national team manager on Monday and his No.2 Tommy Burns appointed as caretaker manager for the friendly with Sweden later in the month, the SFA has begun the search for the new man.
A shortlist made up entirely of Scots has been drawn up but Taylor admitted some of the names could soon be crossed off.
He said: "It is a question of approaching and checking interest and possible availability and then taking the process a stage further."
Former Rangers and Everton boss Walter Smith is available and understood to be willing to take on the post. Ex-Southampton and Coventry boss Gordon Strachan, the Tartan Army’s favourite, is likely to rebuff an approach to keep his options open in England.
