SFA stand by decision over Robson fitness

THE Scottish Football Association are standing by their assertion that Barry Robson was unfit to play for Scotland against Croatia at Hampden on Wednesday night.
The Celtic midfielder was one of seven withdrawals from the squad for George Burley's first match in charge as national team boss which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Robson was sent home with a knee injury picked up in the early stages of the Hoops' 3-0 Cl
ydesdale Bank Premier League win over Gretna at Almondvale last weekend.

According to one report this morning, the Parkhead club are set to demand an explanation from the SFA for Robson's withdrawal, claiming the former Dundee United player refuted the diagnosis and had wanted to stay in the Scotland camp. However, a spokesman for the SFA said they had not heard from Celtic and backed the stance taken by their medical team of Professor Stewart Hillis and Dr John MacLean.

"We haven't heard from Celtic so there is nothing to respond to," the spokesman said. "All we know is what we have read in the papers. The player was treated by the medical team on Sunday and Monday, didn't respond to treatment, and as is standard practice, was sent back to his club."

The four Rangers players who dropped out of Burley's squad – skipper Barry Ferguson, Lee McCulloch, Christian Dailly, and Allan McGregor – are all expected to be fit for tomorrow's Old Firm derby at Ibrox, as is Robson.

barry robson was fit and ready to play for scotland ,he was declared unfit by ex rangers dr hillis and sent home, despite pleas by robson that he was fit an extraordinary turn of events in which left gordan strachan fuming as it turns out that due to rangersfc pulling out 4 of there players .due to injury but according to assistant manager mcoist they would all be available to play in the old firm game
he said this before the scotland game had even been played
barry robson was used by the sfa rangers fc from getting a scotland cap for one reason only ,rangersfc did not want to be seen as the only old firm team to pull out there players, and hence the headlines "the old firm 5 pull out of scotland game"rangers and the sfa are a disgrace and scotlands shame

So the Scotland doctors lied and sent a player home just to give Rangers some kind of minor help? Give us peace.

(I don't think Hillis was ever actually Rangers' club doctor by the way, despite some claims that he was.)

#1 Please stop using the Old Firm or even 'OF' No moral equivalence, don't demean yourself.

I would be interested in previous examples of players declaring themselves fit, clubs declaring their players fit both for a Wednesday game and subsequent Saturday game but a 3rd party doctor finding something amiss. Strange all round.

There is some inconsistency and a need for clarification.

CFC and Robson say he was fit..
The SFA and an ex Rangers doctor say he was not.

Certainly having a Celtic player in the mix of the OF 5 or should that be the Rangers 4 means the finger does not only get pointed at RFC for cynical call offs.

here's a link confirming it. Look forward to hearing your apology.
If Rangers do end up winning this league it will be worthless.

Darren :-),

we had 4 players injured. Barry with ankle (he did see a specilist) big lee with calf, daily with a broken toe! and allan with knee problem.

Robson was 100% fit - but what is the excuse with mcdonald? he was fit too.

I have to ask though - why arrange an old firm game, days after the scotland friendly? or the way the league has been, why not suspend the friendly?

"Look forward to hearing your apology" (#6)

Keep looking. What is in that link is inaccurate. Hillis did do the Prodan examination, but as an external consultant.

"If Rangers do end up winning this league it will be worthless"

Keep telling yourself that. :0)

How much more evidence do we need to establish the fact that there is a conspiracy to promote Rangers' interests in the sfa ?

FFS, they are simply shameless.

This isn't half hearted conspiracy, this is full-on, jam on top, pre-conceived planning.

This is disgusting and the demonstrates the sidekick relationship between Rangers and the sfa.

They don't give a damn. They get a chief exec. who rambles on about a UEFA conspiracy against Rangers because they have the temerity to impose a small fine for thousands of human hybrids screaming FTP , and now they conspire with the sfa medics to declare Robson unfit just to take the heat of their disgusting lies about Bazza & Co being unfit.

This is serious and requires rigorous INDEPENDENT ( non-sfa) investigation.

Celtic will no doubt be in touch with UEFA regarding this latest treachory.
Farry's legacy lives on...stop the corruption.

Celtic should consider entry to the dutch league and leave behind the dead hand of presbyterianism.

Come on Celtic...let's get out of this presbyterian cesspitt and go forth into europe.

Does anyone really honestly believe that some pro-Rangers conspiracy at the SFA would conspire to send home a fit Barry Robson just so that the papers can say that both OF teams had players missing through injury?

Pathetic

10 - Pat. Why not just join the Irish League and be done with - or would you prefer to make the regular run to Amsterdam to top up your supplies of whatever it is you're smoking...?

Dr Feelgood,

There is inconsistency in the explanations from CFC and the SFA regarding the fitmess of Barry Robson for the Croatia friendly.
This quite opposite differing of views on the players fitness merits more clarification from the professionals at CFC and the SFA..

Maybe some further investigation will have a benefit for football medical science.

16 - agreed. You would think Hillis would be a little gun-shy about knee injuries since he was the Doc who gave Prodan the all clear....

The confliction of medical opinions may need a consultant to compare CFC's and the SFA docs diagnosis on Robsons unfit knee.

Considering the player was at training the very next day I guess the CFC docs win it.

18 - I would seek a second opinion if I were you...

The boy clearly wanted to play but the SFA claim Hillis saw a problem on the monday which did not clear up by Tuesday morning. It may be something that he still has, or it has cleared up since. I'm not a doctor, so I can't add much more than that. Clearly it's a odd one, but for some to claim it as a Rangers conspiracy...?
