HIBS striker Steven Fletcher has withdrawn from the Scotland squad which will travel to face Czech Republic on Friday night.
The 21-year-old Easter Road star has been struggling with a chest injury and has spent the last couple of days being monitored by medical staff and training away from the rest of the team with Scotland physio Michael McBride.

However the frontman, who is reported to have been attracting attention from Real Madrid, was forced to pull out of the trip today and has returned to Hibs for further treatment.

Fletcher is the latest in a long line of call-offs for George Burley's second match, a friendly which will take place in Prague on Friday evening, with Alan Hutton, James McFadden, Barry Ferguson and Kris Boyd also pulling out earlier in the week.

How many friendlies has Barry Ferguson actually played for Scotland?

The players seriously cant be too bothered about representing their country in these tyoes of games. It makes me wonder if there is actually any point in having them at all.

#7 - Barry has an ankle injury - seen specalists etc... its common knolodge. I was expecting some of the conspiricy theories regarding Kris Boyd pulling out with a hamstring injury - Gotta wonder how people assume everybody at Rangers will fake up some injury. A) Season is over, so no major games B) Isnt it an honour to represent your country? Plus, friendlies are just that - friendly. How many people attended Scotland v Croatia game? tickets were availible - how many people went to it? i seen many empty seats

International football can be a complete lottery at times. With respect to Scotland, withdrawals are inevitable in a league engaging so many games over the course of a season. The friendly is ill conceived in terms of timing but as Burley has been quoted "What else could we do .... nothing? That wouldn`t be good preparation in light of all the other nations arrangements". It`s a dilema all right and some thought should be given to the SPL fixtures comittment by way of reduction, otherwise the International effort will continue to play second fiddle to club football. Alex Ferguson refused the post years ago because he knew he couldn`t be in complete control so you have to sympathise with Burley and his predecessors ..... Scottish International football is more than often a complete miss hit.

The only Rangers player not to withdraw (in time) is surely Alan McGregor?

Is 'knolodge' the kind of info you get at masonic gatherings?

Shouldn't you be learning about useful stuff like soap and infection control?

Is it just me, or does Fletcher look like the scottish cup?

Ah, now I get it!

Hibernian: We Own The Capital,

God's country 28/05/2008 20:28:19
The SPL's young player of the year Steven Fletcher. Only one other Scotsman scored more SPL goals than him this season (Kris Boyd).

If the lad has pulled out, it'll be a genuine injury because he loves that Scotland shirt. He was a key component of our Under-19 side reaching the European Championship final in 2006 remember. He's hungry to play for his country.

Get well soon Steven you will play a huge part in the forthcoming season for Hibernian with your goals and link-up play. Every other SPL club would love to have you on their books (2 sides just to have you on the bench of course) and I'm definitely betting on you reaching 20 goals this time around.
