HEARTS midfielder Michael Stewart has received an international call-up for Scotland's forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia and Iceland. Several withdrawals have left national coach George Burley with a depleted squad and he has again turned to the influential Tynecastle player.

Stewart was a late addition to the squad last month when Scotland drew with Northern Ireland at Hampden, appearing as a second half substitute in the 0-0 draw. He was excluded from Burley's original party but will join the national squad at their base on the banks of Loch Lomond this afternoon.

Scotland face Macedonia in Skopje on Saturday afternoon before travelling to Reykjavik to face Iceland next Wednesday.

Well done Mikey.

Well done mickey, you may be there due to c all offs but with these call offs becoming increasingly common at the moment you have an ideal chance to shine.

I think it is a disgrace the way many players are letting Burley down just now and the press are out of order for treating him differently to his predecessors due to him not coming from rangers or celtic.

Good luck George and good luck Mickey.

oh mikey stewart, he slummed it down in lochend for a year or two...

perhaps starting to show his true ability at long last. all talk of him being useless etc was always the ignorant ramblings of cretins who wouldn't know a good player if they fell over one.

well done mikey.

Quality player is Mickey and his form so far this season is one of the reason we are sitting 3rd.
He stated himself a few weeks ago that our previous managers have been useless and he knew more about the game than they did.
Should have been in the original squad IMO but he hasn't quite got all the relevant qualifications.
Anyhoo congrats to Mickey S

Talk o' the Toun,

Should have been in the squad 1st time round to reflect his quality/consistant start to the season.

Compare MALONEY 70 mins of football
BROADFOOT: A poor to average player who supposedly had one 'half decent' game. IMO got credit of stopping McGeady when it was in fact DAVIS's tracking back that stopped him

With regard to the story; a player is let go by the flariest, flair-meisters in the history of flair football, ‘cos he’s not considered good enough to play their unique brand of mind-boggling footballing brilliance, ends up at Hearts, plays the best football of his career and breaks into the Scotland squad.

Does that sound familiar to anyone else?

A player who is called to represent Scotland no matter what club he plays for should get support from the punters come match day.

BKB, do us (I am a Gers supporter) a favour stop embarrassing yourself, RFC and Scotland.

Maybe you consider yourself a UK citizen, I prefer to support the country of my birth.

You really are one of the bigger tools on these threads.

Well said BigKennyMac

I was born under a Union Flag. A flag I am proud to wave at Tynecastle.

We will proudly sing the National Anthem of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. When Elizabeth no longer reigns over us, we will gladly proclaim loyalty to Charles, who may be half Greek, but deserves all of the wealth he gets from all of you peasants out there.

Born under a Union flag? I think you'll find it's called the Union Jack (I am aware that it's still a Flag however come on numpty).

Another thing is that Charles won't be the next King so don't know where you've pulled that one from.

And being a hibs fan how often do you wave your "union flag" at Tynecastle?

Not even remotely approaching a good attempt at a wind-up. Try harder next time.

BigDivvy. I would check my passport but I haven’t got one. I’m a Polish asylum seeker married to an African. We entered the country illegally but are living comfortably in accommodation donated by the council because we used fake ID. It would be hard to get by solely on the benefits we receive but don’t worry about me, I’m working full-time cleaning windows cash in hand. Rolling in the stuff I am.

Hmm..It's good to have your players in national squads of course, but I wish I was sure that Stewart was really deserving of this.
Firstly, I reckon he was pretty gash last season (mind you he wasn't alone), and other than a great game vs. Motherwell, I don't see that he's been THAT terrific so far. My worry is that his head will swell again, (which may have been his trouble before) and now he's got an "I'm ex-Man U and now Scotland" bit of bragging in the pubs and clubs.
He needs to play well for a full season or thereabouts before I'm convinced he's got his head on straight.
39

We need some football, if this goes on for another week and a half I cant cope.

#33 GORGIE B.
It is in fact more properly called the "Union FLAG",not the Union Jack....however,to me it'll always be a "butchers apron", and not something that I personally would wish to fly, and certainly not while we have a saltire.
I believe that it's quite right that the club do NOT sell Union flags and the like, firstly because like it or no. it DOES/CAN have political associations at a scottish football match...and secondly, I'm not anxious to be thought of in the same way as the mindless Copeland Road crew who seem so attached to it

Chas Niceass,

#43 I know.
But you know what they say, if you cant beat them join em.
Merely pointing out though that Rangers do not represent the British Isles, in their personnel, their management (ok maybe they do) or their fans.
Its this sort of self imposed nationalism that leads to the trouble in the first place, if you pause for thought, maybe you will realise this.
Next to money, to me religion is the greatest evil this world has to offer, when pointed in the wrong direction.
Its a pity people dont use it for the purposes of well being rather than some personal gratification at the expense of others.

Agreed...but that's not the issue here.
...are you maintaining that those who fly this flag at football grounds are doing this as a gesture of support for our soldiers in foreign lands etc??
Isn't it possible that there is a more sinister reason? That they wish to demonstrate their "support" for the protestant ascendency in Northern Ireland for example?.....or are they all such great students of history that they've all decided that the history of the flag is SO glorious, and that their love of it is SO great, that they need to fly it at a football game.
You make up your mind on that one sir if you need to and so, if you don't mind, and like the rest of us, shall I.
53

sim1874,

03/09/2008 15:33:11
The waving of Union Jacks at football matches is only done as a jibe at certain opposition. I've always hated seeing them at Tynie. Maybe its a generational thing and I hope it dies out and the only national flag seen is the saltire. Stopping the sale of Union Jack merchandise was one of the more sane things that Mad Vlad has done.

Can Rangers fans seperate the image of the Union Jack with the idea of sectarianism? No, the majority can't. Mo Johnston was there only catholic player in something like 80 years and it would have been longer had the Gers not feared action from UEFA over their "unoffical" policy. (incidentally Mo always wore long sleeves to hide irish national slogan tatoos on his arms)

The Hearts emblem contains the only national flag we need to see at Tynie - the Saltire.

#47 As one of people who go to areas like that I can confirm that I do it to pay my mortgage and feed my wife and kid. Although I am proud to be in the Armed Forces I dont wave the Union Flag at football matches. I have found those who do wave the flag as a sign of stirring things up with the opposition fans. I personnaly dont like seeing the flag at Tynie and prefer to see a Saltire instead, but thats my opinion.

Right can people please keep up with who's who on here these days.

Moat Street jambo, i don't know if you are a real poster and someone who is who they claim to be but just in case you are I would like to point out to you that 'Talk o the Toun' is a cloned ID, The original TOTT (CJ) is a pretty sensible type who, while not knowing his political persuasions, seems infinitely more inteligent than the sort of moron who waves union flag (It is now the flag and no longer called the jack) at Tynie.

TOTT in this instance is Serg' the sad wee cloner from Pilton.

Also can we keep up and just realise and ignore 'JAWS for c**k as he is infact our very own cyber-villiage idiot: Riley.

As for my own political persuasion I realise that officialy I am British but this is not something i am proud of and this is why i now vote SNP in an attempt to be Scottish (Something i will always be in my heart anyway) and to lose the subjugation and contempt that we have foisted upon us from a very unfair union with a country who's political history is shamefull and brutal to the point of revulsion.

Scotland is a nation, albeit one in a 'union'. Should England be kicked out too. Funny that the Hunnn didn't mention that one.
