Burley raises the Barr for Scots friendly

FALKIRK defender Darren Barr has received a surprise call-up to George Burley's Scotland squad for the forthcoming friendly with Northern Ireland, joining fellow newcomer Kris Commons of Derby County.
Barr continued his exceptional form from last season to earn international recognition for the first time, whilst Mansfield-born Commons qualifies for Scotland through blood lineage.

Also in the squad for the match at Hampden Park on August 20 are
Hearts captain Christophe Berra and Steven Fletcher of Hibs.

Squad: Goalkeepers: Craig Gordon (Sunderland), David Marshall (Norwich City), Allan McGregor (Rangers). Defenders: Darren Barr (Falkirk), Christophe Berra (Heart of Midlothian), Gary Caldwell (Celtic), Callum Davidson (Preston North End), Stephen McManus (Celtic), Kevin McNaughton (Cardiff City), Gary Naysmith (Sheffield United), Steven Whittaker (Rangers). Midfield: Scott Brown (Celtic), Kris Commons (Derby County), Darren Fletcher (Manchester United), Paul Hartley (Celtic), James Morrison (West Bromwich Albion), Gavin Rae (Cardiff City), Barry Robson (Celtic), Kevin Thomson (Rangers). Forwards: Kris Boyd (Rangers), David Clarkson (Motherwell), Steven Fletcher (Hibs), James McFadden (Birmingham City), Kenny Miller (Rangers).

Interesting to see that Hearts, accused of bringing in an influx of foreign players and therefore damaging the development of Scottish youngsters, have 4 players named in the squads.

Whereas Hibs, complimented by the press (and their own fans) for bringing through young flair players have only 3.

I realise this post will attract the hordes of bitter half-wits who sometimes litter these threads, but it's a decent question is it not?

Perhaps all is not as it seems, or how the press would have you believe...

1# look at the lists again. Caldwell, Brown, Whittaker, Thomson (and Kenny Miller) all came from Hibs and would still be there but for the financial monopoly of the OF. How many ex Hearts players are there ? Only Naysmith and Hartley (who is ex Hibs also)
Take your blinkers off and try to contribute positively in future. Half Wit !!
