Dawe sets out economy goal

THE economy in Edinburgh has to move up a level and start to challenge major European cities, according to the leader of the city council.
Councillor Jenny Dawe also said extra efforts have to go on ensuring social exclusion is tackled successfully.

Cllr Dawe said: "Although Edinburgh's economy has been bucking the trend and is doing well in a UK context, there is a real need to improve our competitive position in Europe and beyond."

Okay, let's have some positive steps.

1) Council can remove previous steps to increase congestion
2) Cancellation of the tram project which will impede business in the city
3) Encourage high class hotel operations by suggesting that they might be able to get a drinks licence.
4) Bring down the Council tax each year leaving residents more cash to spend.

#4, are there any high class hotels that don't have drinks licences...?

#1, it's not a bad question... Edinburgh isn't exactly unemployment central. Maybe it's more about quality of life than quantity of GDP (although the two are linked)?
