New routes make city airport Scotland's busiest

EDINBURGH was Scotland's busiest airport last month thanks to the launch of five new international routes to destinations in Italy, Germany, Cyprus and France.
Latest figures from airport operator BAA Scotland show the Capital's gateway handled 724,154 passengers in April. In the year to April, 9.1 million passengers used Edinburgh Airport – a rise of 4.9 per cent on the previous 12-month period.

Five new services to Pisa, Bremen, Frankfurt Hahn, Paphos and Nice all started during the month and performed well according to airport bosses.

Edinburgh Airport's managing director, David Johnston, said: "Edinburgh has never been so well served in terms of air links.

"The five most recent additions to our route network give passengers greater choice, whether flying on business or leisure.

"In total, 27 new services will start from Edinburgh this year to a variety of destinations."

Not surprising that the EEN has failed to mention that Edinburgh Airport has actually declined on April last year by 0.2%. Is this the start of things to come, given the credit crunch?

The decline was the first seen in Edinburgh in over 10 years! Speaks volumes on the state of the economy!

Still - nobody wants to go to Seville!! except you seemingly!

Seville is hardly a priority! I would expect the likes of Lyon/Rome on a regular basis would be more of a priority!

Incorrect. The airport has had several month on month declines in the past 10 years. The reasons given by the airport's owner was the timing of Easter and the shambles of T5. Of BAA's 7 UK airports, 5 experienced month on month declines in April. Annual growth at Edinburgh International Airport remains strong and is currently just under 430k.

London to Seville, what are you talking about?

Perhaps 3 times a week from Heathrow - there may be the demand for that, certainly there is not the demand from Edinburgh!!!!

I was in Seville last year, stayed in one of the Old state run hotels there, very nice.

I'm not so sure that Betis fans would agree with your comments about Football fans - rather ignorant!
