Move to drum up music cash

THE fight to secure more cash for traditional music will hit the Scottish Parliament next month.

The Scots Music Group has launched the campaign for more money and acknowledgement from Holyrood to recognise the country's traditional music and the heritage it produces.

Musicians and supporters will gather at the parliament at 1pm on September 4 to demonstrate the importance of the cause.

They will be fronted by the city's best known piper Louise Marshall Millington.

The group has teamed up with the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland to point out the importance of preserving Scots traditional music and the importance it can have in future.

Alastair Cameron, chairman of the Scots Music Group, said: "We believe that it will be disastrous for Scots music, dance and song if there are no organisations to promote and nurture traditions."
